Target a paid partnership proposal by URL, keyword, or location
Restrict where a sponsorship proposal shows by page URL, SEO keyword, or location, and update its targeting on acceptance or during rectification.
Targeting limits a sponsorship proposal to specific page URLs, to pages that contain SEO keywords, or to geographic locations. It's an optional step when you create a proposal. By default, a proposal with no targeting shows in all of the publisher's selected placements, embeds, and environments.
Both sides can set targeting: the publisher brand from Monetize, and the advertiser brand from Grow. The same logic and options apply in both directions. For the full proposal flow, see Create and send paid partnership proposals to network brands.
Add targeting to a proposal
Targeting appears as an optional section during proposal creation, in both the Monetize and Grow flows. To create the proposal with no targeting restrictions, skip the section and click Next.
Add page URLs
In the Targeting section, enter the URLs of the pages where you want the proposal to appear. You can add several URLs at the same time. Genuin removes duplicate URLs when you save.
Any prefix resolves to the same domain. For example, www.google.com and google.com are treated identically.
Add keywords
- Enter an SEO keyword that must be present on the page for the proposal to show.
- Press Enter to confirm the keyword.
- Repeat for each keyword. You can add several keywords at the same time.
Warning
Keywords you type but don't confirm with Enter aren't saved. Press Enter after each keyword before you save.
Add a location
- Choose a country. The state field becomes available.
- (Optional) Choose a state. The city field becomes available.
- (Optional) Choose a city.
Leaving the state or city as All targets the entire country or state.
| Selection | Where the proposal shows |
|---|---|
| Country only | Across the entire country |
| Country and state | Only in that state |
| Country, state, and city | Only in that city |
Once you add a location dimension, you must select a country before you can go to the next step.
How targeting rules combine
Targeting has an AND and OR switch in two places: across the three dimensions (URL, keyword, and location), and within the keyword dimension. The AND option is disabled in both places, so the proposal shows if any one condition is met.
| Scenario | Behavior |
|---|---|
| URL and keyword (across dimensions) | Shows if the URL matches or the keyword is present. Either condition is enough. |
| Two keywords with OR | Shows if either keyword is present on the page |
| Two keywords with AND | Both keywords must be present on the page (the AND option is disabled) |
| No targeting added | Shows in all of the publisher's selected placements, embeds, and environments, with no restrictions |
Update targeting when you accept a proposal
When the receiving brand accepts a proposal that includes targeting, the acceptance pop-up in Grow shows the existing targeting rules.
- In the acceptance pop-up, review the current targeting rules.
- Remove, edit, or replace any targeting dimension. For example, replace a URL, or add a location restriction that wasn't in the original proposal.
- Confirm the acceptance.
The targeting you accept is what applies to the scheduled proposal.
Note
Only the advertiser's acceptance shows targeting. When the publisher accepts in Monetize, the popup asks for the Placement, Embed, and Environment instead, and the publisher clicks Done. All three must exist together in an active preset on the publisher's brand.
Once a proposal moves from Scheduled to Live, the Targeting section becomes read-only and you can't change it.
Warning
You can't update targeting after the proposal reaches the Live state. Plan your targeting before the campaign goes live.
Add targeting during rectification
You can add or update targeting as part of rectification. If the original proposal had no targeting, the receiving brand can add URL, keyword, or location restrictions inside Rectify Terms and send them back. Learn more about rectifying a sponsorship proposal.
- On the rectification edit screen, scroll to the Targeting section. If the original proposal had no targeting, the section appears empty and optional.
- Add any dimension. Genuin includes it in the rectification sent back to the original sender.
- Click Send Rectification.
Send Rectification is enabled only when you've made at least one change. If you open Rectify Terms and don't modify any field, including Targeting, the button stays disabled.
Limitations
- AND logic: The AND option is disabled across dimensions and within keywords, so any one matching condition shows the proposal.
- Live proposals: Targeting is read-only once a proposal is Live.
- Unconfirmed keywords: Keywords not confirmed with Enter aren't saved.
- Country first: A location needs a country before you can proceed.
