Set up a community sponsorship
Learn how to create a community sponsorship in your Business Account, from choosing a Partnered Post or Partnered Takeover to posts, placements, CPM, budget, and dates.
A community sponsorship promotes selected posts, your own or a partner's, inside community feeds and earns revenue at a CPM you set. Members see relevant, curated content instead of interruptions, and you decide what they see first.
Genuin delivers the sponsorship only in the placements and environments that your Ad Configuration presets allow. It moves the campaign to Live and Expired on schedule and stops delivery when the budget runs out.
Sponsorships are one of the revenue sources in Monetize. For the whole product, see Monetize: what it does and where to start.
Create the sponsorship
- In your Business Account, go to Monetize > Paid Partnership. It lists your existing campaigns.
- Click New Paid Partnership.
- Enter a Paid Partnership Title. The title is required.
- Choose a Paid Partnership Type:
- Partnered Post, the default, promotes selected posts within feeds.
- Partnered Takeover fills placements with partnered content.
A Partnered Post appears within the feed at ad slots. A Partnered Takeover fills the entire placement with partnered content, which suits launches that need maximum visibility. Learn more about Paid Partner Post, Paid Partner Takeover, and how sponsored posts and takeovers work.
If you choose a takeover, the window adds a preview section with a content toggle. On: the takeover videos play first, then your normal content resumes. Off: only the takeover videos show, in a continuous loop.
With more than 10 videos selected, a takeover keeps looping whatever the toggle is set to.
Switching between the two types keeps every value you've already entered.
Select posts to sponsor
- Choose posts from the approved posts in your content library.
- (Optional) Filter the posts by brand, community, group, category, topics, or duration.
- (Optional) Search by name or handle to find a post quickly.
You can add up to 20 posts to a sponsorship. Posts marked as House Ads can't be selected, and unapproved posts can't be used. Learn more about House Ads.
Once you select 20 posts, the remaining checkboxes are disabled until you deselect one. You need at least one post to continue.
To include a partner's posts, choose the partner in Partnering Brand. It can be a Retail, Consumer, or Media brand. The post list then shows your own videos plus the partner's videos shared with you.
Choose placements and environments
Define where the sponsorship can appear:
- Select your Placement/Embed: Choose All Placements & All Embeds, the default, or specific placements and embeds.
- Environment: All Environments, Mobile Web, Desktop Web, iOS, and Android.
Final delivery is the intersection of the sponsorship's settings and your Ad Configuration presets. A placement must be selected in the sponsorship and active in a preset, and the environment must match the preset's settings. Learn more about ad monetization presets.
To narrow delivery further, add optional Targeting by URLs, keywords, or location. The sponsorship then shows only where they match. With no targeting, there's no restriction.
Add tracking (Optional)
We recommend adding tracking because it lets you measure the sponsorship's performance in your own tools.
- Add a Google Tag Manager ID.
- Add a Pixel URL.
You can set both at the sponsorship level or on individual posts.
Set earnings
| Field | Requirement | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Video View CPM | Required | Cost per 1,000 video views |
| Total Paid Partnership Budget | Required | Total campaign spend |
| Impression rule | Fixed | One impression is a video play of at least 3 seconds |
The CPM takes a value from 10 to 1,000. The budget takes 10 to 1,000,000 and must be higher than the CPM, so an equal value isn't allowed.
Pacing sets how the budget is spent. Off, the default, spends it as quickly as possible (ASAP). On spreads it evenly across the period (Evenly).
(Optional) Change Frequency Capping. It's on by default at 5 per Daily: you can set the count up to 20, set the period to Daily or Lifetime, or turn it off.
The Payment Type is prefilled as Publisher Direct Payout, so payment goes directly to you as the publisher.
Revenue is based on the CPM and the impressions delivered. When the budget is exhausted, the sponsorship moves to Finished and its content stops serving.
Set the duration
Under Paid Partnership Period, set:
- The start date and time, which is required.
- The end date and time, which is also required.
Both dates must be in the future, and the end date must be at least 24 hours after the start date.
The campaign runs strictly within this window. Genuin moves it to Live and to Expired automatically on schedule. For example, a festival campaign set to run for 10 days goes live at its start time and expires at its end time, with no action from you.
Review and launch
- Preview the selected posts.
- Drag and drop posts to set their order.
- (Optional) Edit a post's metadata at the sponsorship level. The original post stays unchanged.
Optionally, add links to a post, up to 4 per post. If the post already has a description or links, they appear prefilled.
Optionally, click Download PDF to save a summary of the sponsorship.
- Click Send Proposal to send it to the partner, or Schedule Partnered Post to schedule it directly. Until then, it stays a Draft: it's saved as one as soon as you move past the configuration step.
A scheduled sponsorship becomes Live automatically once its start time arrives. To edit, pause, or resume it later, see Manage and track sponsorship campaigns.
How delivery works
Sponsored content shows only when all of these are true:
- The sponsorship is Live.
- The placement is enabled in Ad Configuration.
- The placement is selected in the sponsorship.
- The budget isn't exhausted.
- The placement's preset has the toggle for the sponsorship's type turned on: Partnered Post (under In-Feed) or Partnered Takeover.
The same placement can carry several sponsorships. Genuin decides which one runs in this order:
- Partnered Takeover first, if the preset's Partnered Takeover toggle is on.
- Higher CPM within the same type.
- Higher remaining budget.
- More impressions delivered.
- First created (first come, first served).
For example, when two sponsorships of the same type target the same placement, the one with the higher CPM runs first.
The next sponsorship shows once the current one is paused, runs out of budget, or expires.
Sponsored posts follow the preset's In-Feed Start Slot and Repeat Frequency, in the order you set. After the last post, the sequence starts again from the first.
Every sponsored video carries a sponsored tag.
Edit after launch
Once a sponsorship is Live, you can still update some fields:
| Field | Draft or Scheduled | Live |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Yes | Yes |
| Posts | Yes | Yes |
| Video View CPM | Yes | No |
| Total Paid Partnership Budget | Yes | No |
| Start Date | Yes | No |
| End Date | Yes | Yes |
Each paid partnership card shows one of these statuses:
- Draft: The configuration is saved, but it isn't sent or scheduled yet.
- Proposal Sent or Proposal Received: A proposal is waiting for the other brand's response.
- Rectification Sent or Rectification Received: One brand edited a received proposal and sent it back.
- Scheduled: It's waiting for its start date.
- Live: It's running.
- Paused: It was paused manually.
- Expired: The end date passed before the budget ran out.
- Finished: The total budget is exhausted.
- Rejected: The receiving brand rejected the proposal.
Troubleshoot delivery
If a sponsorship isn't delivering, check for these causes:
- Placement not enabled: Enable the placement in Ad Configuration.
- Environment mismatch: Make sure the sponsorship's environments match those in your Ad Configuration settings.
- Budget exhausted: The sponsorship has moved to Finished and its content stopped serving. Create a new sponsorship to keep the content running.
- Not yet live: The campaign is still a Draft or Scheduled. Schedule the draft, or wait for the start time.
- Page not reloaded: Reload the page. Changes to a sponsorship or preset reach the SDK only after a reload.
Limitations
- Post limit: You can add up to 20 posts per sponsorship.
- No House Ads: Posts marked as House Ads can't be selected for a sponsorship.
- Approved posts only: Unapproved posts can't be used.
- Fixed impression rule: An impression always means a video play of at least 3 seconds.
- Locked commercial terms: You can't change the CPM, budget, or start date of a Live sponsorship.
Example campaigns
- Partner content: A brand partners with an external advertiser. It selects five curated videos, sets a high CPM, and targets mobile app placements to earn revenue while showing relevant branded content.
- Product launch takeover: A brand uses a Partnered Takeover to fill the feed with campaign videos during its launch window.
- Seasonal campaign: A brand sets a budget and a timeline of 10 days for a festival campaign and targets all environments, earning revenue from content aligned with the season.
