Create a preset for paid partnerships
Learn how to configure the presets that control where and how paid partnership ads render across your placements and embeds.
This guide describes the actions you need to take to set up a house ad fallback, configure your default presets, create a custom preset, and load it in your SDK.
Set a house ad fallback
A house ad is required before in-feed ads can run. Without one, saving a preset with In-Feed on opens an Enable House Ads First popup, and the preset isn't saved.
- Go to Manage > Posts.
- Click Edit Post in a video's three-dot menu.
- Select the House Ad checkbox and click Confirm.
The video is now marked as your house ad, alongside your other organic content. In-feed advertisers can now be activated without error.
Posts marked as House Ads are left out of paid partnership post selection, so a house ad can't become a partnered post.
To list your house ads later, filter Manage > Posts by Monetization.
Review your default presets
Go to Settings > Ad Configuration to see your presets. By default, you'll have five:
- Global — active by default. Applies to the Home, Latest, and Popular feeds of your web app and mobile app.
- Premium: a premium experience with only direct-sourced paid partnerships.
- Balanced: optimized to avoid back-to-back ad fatigue.
- Conservative: keeps video content pure. Ads only appear while scrolling.
- Aggressive: maximizes revenue, and generates back-to-back ads.
These four are inactive until you assign them a placement or embed. Their ad settings are read-only, and you can't delete them.
| Preset | In-Feed | Partnered Takeover | In-Stream | Other settings |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | On. Partnered Post only. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 4. | On | Off | Match video player ratio, Mute on Start off, Duration on |
| Balanced | On. Partnered Post and Video Ads. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 4. | On | On. Start Content Video 4, Repeat Frequency 4. | Match video player ratio, Mute on Start off, Duration on |
| Conservative | On. Partnered Post and Video Ads. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 4. | On | Off | Match video player ratio, Mute on Start on, Duration on |
| Aggressive | On. All ad types. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 2. | On | On. Start Content Video 4, Repeat Frequency 4. | Allow all aspect ratios, Mute on Start off, Duration on |
Each preset row shows its tag, ad formats, environments, and status: Active or Inactive. The built-in presets carry the Default tag.
Use Search to find a preset by name, and Filter to narrow the list by Platform, Ad Type, Placements, and Embeds. Search and filters work together.
Deactivate the Global preset
The Global preset is the only preset that doesn't require a placement or embed to be active — it's on by default. To turn it off:
- Open the Global preset.
- Turn off In-Feed, In-Stream, and Partnered Takeover.
- Click Save.
This preset's name and description can't be edited, but all its ad settings can. It also can't be duplicated.
Activate a default preset
Each of the four default presets can only be edited in one way — by assigning it a placement or embed.
- Open a default preset.
- Select the Placement or Embed where you want this preset to load.
- Click Save.
Once a placement or embed is assigned, the preset becomes active — provided the activation rules below are also met.
On these four presets, Save becomes active only after you change a placement or embed assignment. Delete is visible but disabled.
Create a custom preset
- Go to Settings > Ad Configuration and click New Preset.
- Enter a Preset Name.
- Optionally, add a Description.
- Choose Global or Custom settings:
- Global — the same settings apply across all four platforms (Web, Mobile Web, iOS, Android).
- Custom — configure each of the four platforms individually.
- For each platform, select the Placement or Embed you want this preset to control.
- Choose the ad servers this preset uses, from the ones in Demand Settings. The default ad server is preselected, and Header Bidding shows as a single option.
- Enable at least one delivery format: In-Feed, Partnered Takeover, or In-Stream.
- Click Save.
Save stays disabled until you make a change and every validation rule passes. After you save, a success toast appears, and the breadcrumb changes from New Preset to the preset's name.
New presets are added to the bottom of the list.
Cancel reverts your unsaved changes after an Unsaved Changes warning. Leaving the page with unsaved changes shows the same warning.
Preset rules
- One preset per placement or embed. A placement or embed belongs to one preset at a time, and a preset can have several. If you assign a placement or embed that's already used in another preset, you'll get a confirmation prompt — confirming moves it to the new preset and removes it from the old one.
- A preset is only active when both of the following are true: it has a placement or embed assigned, and at least one of In-Feed, Partnered Takeover, or In-Stream is enabled. Turning off all three toggles and saving makes the preset inactive again, even if a placement is still assigned.
- Preset Name is required: 3 to 50 characters, with no leading or trailing spaces and no duplicate names.
- Preset Description is optional: up to 200 characters, with no trailing spaces.
- Switching between Global and Custom asks you to confirm. Going from Custom back to Global resets the per-platform settings and applies the Web tab's configuration everywhere.
- In the reassignment prompt, Cancel deselects all the items you picked. Confirm & Apply keeps your selection, but the placement or embed moves only when you save.
- You can remove the preselected default ad server once you select another one. If nothing else is selected, it stays.
Configure in-feed ad settings
In-feed ads occupy their own card slot within the feed, separate from any video's content card.
- Set the Repeat Frequency — how often an in-feed ad slot appears (for example, a frequency of 2 shows ads at positions 2, 4, 6; a frequency of 3 shows them at 3, 6, 9).
- Set the Start Slot — where counting begins (for example, a start slot of 1 begins showing ads from the first position).
- Choose which ad types to allow: Partnered Post and Video Ads. House (Fallback Content) is always on, and it plays when ad inventory is empty.
The In-Feed section stays collapsed while its toggle is off, and turning the toggle on expands it.
Drag the ad type rows to set their priority. Partnered Post must be on for paid partnership posts to show in this preset's placements and embeds.
Start Slot and Repeat Frequency each take a value from 1 to 10, and both default to 2. They count content cards and In-Stream cards, but not in-feed ad cards.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Ad Events | Show ads in card view & in full screen |
| Ad Aspect Ratio | Allow all aspect ratios |
| Mute on Start | On |
| Duration | Off |
Video ads appear only if the selected ad server supports them, even when their toggle is on.
Configure in-stream ad settings
In-stream ads play inside a video's own content card, rather than occupying a separate slot.
- Enable Pre-roll, Mid-roll, or Post-roll as needed — at least one must be enabled, or you'll get a validation error.
- Set the Start Content Video and Repeat Frequency to control which videos carry in-stream ads.
In-Stream is on in a new preset. Business Account doesn't show separate pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll switches. The selected demand source decides the ad types, and pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll ads play automatically.
Start Content Video and Repeat Frequency each take a value from 1 to 10, and both default to 2. For in-stream ads, they count content cards only.
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Ad Events | Show ads in card view & in full screen |
| Ad Aspect Ratio | Allow all aspect ratios |
| Mute on Start | Off |
| Duration | Off |
Each ad type appears only if the selected ad server supports it.
Understand partner takeover behavior
If Partnered Takeover is on, it overrides the other ad types. The takeover's videos play first. On the takeover paid partnership, Allow other content to appear after takeover decides whether normal content follows them.
The Partnered Takeover section is always visible in the preset editor, and its toggle is on by default. A smaller Video Feed Preview for Partnered Takeover appears below the toggle.
Partnered Takeover must be on for takeover paid partnerships to show in this preset's placements and embeds.
Preview and load your preset in your SDK
While you edit a preset, the Feed Preview panel shows a live 15-card preview of the feed. Select Content, In-Feed, or In-Stream to change what the preview shows.
- Open the Placement or Embed you configured and copy its embed code.
- Open that code in your SDK.
The content and ad behavior you configured in the preset — in-feed position, in-stream roll points, or takeover behavior — is reflected live. Changing a setting in the preset and saving updates what's shown the next time the SDK is refreshed.
Manage a preset from Grow
You can also reach a preset from the placement or embed itself:
- Go to Grow and open your list of placements or embeds.
- Click the three-dot menu next to one.
- If it's already assigned to a preset, click Go to Monetization Preset to open it directly.
- If it isn't assigned to a preset yet, click Add to Monetization Preset. It takes you to the Ad Configuration listing, where you can create a new preset and assign it there.
Settings > Ad Configuration also has Placements and Embeds tabs. Each tab lists your placements or embeds with the preset each one is linked to, linked rows first.
Unlinked rows show '-' for the preset and are inactive. A row's three-dot menu offers Go to Preset and Add to Preset, and clicking a linked row opens its preset.
Duplicate or delete a preset
Click a preset's Duplicate icon to copy it right away, with no confirmation. The copy goes to the bottom of the list, without the original's placements and embeds.
The copy is named Preset plus a number: the total number of presets plus one. If that name is taken, the number goes up until a free name is found.
To delete a custom preset, click Delete in its three-dot menu and confirm. It's removed right away, even if placements or embeds are assigned to it. Default presets can't be deleted.
Who can change presets
| Role | Access |

| Brand Owner or Brand Admin | View, create, edit, duplicate, and delete custom presets |
| Content Manager | View and edit, but not delete, custom presets |
| Viewer | Read-only. New Preset, Duplicate, Delete, and Save are disabled. |
Users without access can't open Ad Configuration, even from its URL.
