Create and manage monetization presets

Create, duplicate, edit, and assign monetization presets in your Business Account to set where ads appear, how often, and on which platforms.

A monetization preset is a saved set of ad rules for your placements and embeds. It sets which ad types can fill a slot, where the first ad appears, how often ads repeat, and which platforms the rules apply to. Your team sets up presets in your Business Account without engineering work, applies them across Web, iOS, Android, and Mobile Web, and previews them before they go live.

Presets are part of Monetize. Genuin's feed service reads the preset and places the ads before each page of the feed reaches the viewer. How the Genuin SDK places ads in a feed explains that mechanism.

Open Ad Configuration

  1. In your Business Account, go to Settings > Ad Configuration.
Step 1: Monetization presets live under Settings > Ad Configuration.
  1. Choose how to start:
    • Use a Default Preset: it's pre-configured and ready to use, for a fast setup.
    • Create a Custom Preset: every setting is yours to change, for advanced control or a specific campaign.

Default presets

PresetBest for
PremiumA clean experience with sponsorships only
BalancedOptimized revenue with minimal disruption
ConservativeA content-first experience
AggressiveMaximum monetization

You can assign placements to a default preset, but you can't modify its internal logic. Start with the Balanced preset, then customize from there.

Find a preset

The Monetization Presets list view shows every preset. From it, you can search and filter presets, duplicate them, and create new ones.

Search and filter sit above the list, and each preset has its own duplicate and action buttons.

To narrow the list, filter it by any of these:

FilterOptions
PlatformWeb, iOS, Android, Mobile Web
Ad TypeIn-Feed, In-Stream, Sponsored
PlacementsAll, or specific placements
EmbedsAll, or specific embeds
Pick a filter category on the left, check its options, then click Apply.

Duplicate a preset

  1. Click the ⧉ icon on the preset you want to copy.
Step 1: Duplicate Preset copies any preset, defaults included, with all its settings.

Genuin creates a new preset named "[Original Name] (Copy)". The copy carries every configuration of the original: In-Feed, In-Stream, and Sponsored Takeover ad settings, placements, embeds, and environment rules. The copy is fully editable right away.

Edit or delete a custom preset

Only custom presets can be edited or deleted:

ActionBehavior
Duplicate PresetCreates an editable copy
Edit PresetAvailable for custom presets
Delete PresetAvailable for custom presets only
  1. Click ⋯ on the preset, then Edit Preset or Delete Preset.
Step 1: Edit Preset and Delete Preset appear in the ⋯ menu of a custom preset.
  1. Confirm the action.
  2. To edit, make your changes in the configuration window that opens, then save them.

Warning

Deleting a preset is permanent and can't be undone. To keep its settings, duplicate the preset before you delete it.

Default presets can't be deleted: the Delete Preset option isn't available for them.

Create a custom preset

  1. Click + New Preset.
Step 1: Start a custom preset with + New Preset.
  1. Enter a Preset Name of up to 50 characters. The name is required.
  2. (Optional) Enter a Description of up to 200 characters.
  3. Under Select environment to show ads, choose Global to apply the preset to all platforms, or Custom settings to select specific platforms: Web, iOS, Android, or Mobile Web.
Step 4: Choose Global for every platform, or Custom settings to pick platforms.
  1. Select the Placements & Embeds that use the preset.
Step 5: Pick placements on one tab and embeds on the other, then click Apply.
  1. Configure in-feed ads, in-stream ads, Sponsored Takeover, and the ad settings, as the next sections describe.

Configure in-feed ads

In-feed ads appear between content items in the feed.

Turn each ad type on or off, and drag the list to set its priority.
Ad typeCategoryWhat it is
Sponsored PostSponsoredDirect-sold content with the standard interaction interface
Video AdsProgrammaticVideo ads from programmatic sources
Native AdsProgrammaticProgrammatic display ads designed to match the surrounding content
Display CardsProgrammaticDisplay ads from programmatic sources
House (Fallback Content)Fallback, on by defaultContent that shows when no paid ad is available, set in your Business Account

Learn more about direct-sold posts in Paid Partner Post, and about fallback content in Mark and manage house ads.

Two settings decide where in-feed ads land:

  • Start Slot: where the first ad appears.
  • Repeat Frequency: how often ads repeat.

For example, with a Start Slot of 2 and a Repeat Frequency of 4, ads appear at positions 2, 6, 10, 14, and so on. Use these two settings to control how often viewers see ads while they scroll.

Configure in-stream ads

In-stream ads play inside videos. You can turn each type on or off.

In-stream ads have their own switch, timing, and roll types.
Ad typeWhen it playsEffect on the viewing experience and views
Pre-rollBefore the main videoThe most common format, and the best for guaranteed ad impressions
Mid-rollHalfway through the videoAchieves a high completion rate, but might hurt the viewing experience
Post-rollAfter the video endsThe least disruptive option, but it delivers the fewest guaranteed views

Avoid too many mid-roll ads, because they interrupt the video and might hurt the viewing experience.

Set up Sponsored Takeover (Optional)

A Sponsored Takeover runs a full-feed campaign, where sponsored video replaces the feed. Use it for high-impact campaigns only. Learn more in Paid Partner Takeover.

Sponsored Takeover replaces the whole feed with direct-sold sponsored videos.
SettingWhat it does
Sponsored Takeover toggleTurns full-feed takeover mode on or off
Video Feed as Sponsored TakeoverA checkbox that, when selected, replaces the entire video feed area with the sponsored video experience
Preview PanelShows a live miniature of the takeover layout across feed slots, on the right side of the editor

Set ad aspect ratio, sound, and timer

These controls set an ad's aspect ratio, starting sound, and countdown.
SettingWhat it doesOptions
Ad Aspect RatioSets which ad creative aspect ratios can displayAllow all aspect ratios (the default) accepts ads of any ratio. Match video player ratio accepts only ads that match the player's aspect ratio.
Mute on StartSets the starting sound of in-feed video adsOn or off. When on, video ads start playing without sound.
DurationShows or hides the ad's countdownOn or off. When on, viewers see the time left in the ad.

Assign and preview the preset

  1. Select where the preset applies, such as feeds and embeds.
  2. Use Feed Preview to check how ads appear in the feed, during video playback, and in Sponsored Takeover mode.
  3. Save your selection.

Once the preset is assigned, ads start appearing based on its configuration. The preview mirrors the actual feed logic and updates within 500 ms of a change. If the preview doesn't match what you expect, check that the preset's slot settings and environment targeting are what you intended.

When no ad is available

If no ad is available for a slot, Genuin tries the fallback: house ads. If no house ad is available either, the slot is skipped, so viewers never see empty space.

House (Fallback Content) is on by default, so house ads serve as the fallback even if you don't configure it. We recommend configuring fallback house ads in every preset because they keep slots filled when no paid ad is available.

Limitations

  • Preset name: Required, up to 50 characters.
  • Description: Optional, up to 200 characters.
  • Number of presets: There's no defined limit on custom presets.
  • Default presets: You can't edit their ad logic, change their ad frequency, or delete them. You can only assign placements to them.
  • Deletion: Deleting a custom preset is permanent.
