Ask
Natural-language questions answered from your reports along the grid, with the chart and the rows behind the answer.
Ask lets you question your network's data in plain language from your Business Account. Octo reads your reports and answers with the chart and the rows it used. You refine the answer in the same thread and pin the ones you want to keep.
Octo, Genuin's Supervised Intelligence interface in your Business Account, proposes this capability when it finds a fit on your sites and apps. It completes the steps under Set it up from your brand context. Nothing goes live until you approve it. It's part of Supervised Intelligence, and Supervised Intelligence: the orchestration and generative commerce layer explains how Ask works alongside Act and Resolve.
When to use it
Any Business Account user can ask. Use it when a number moves and you want to know why, or when you need a setting and don't know where it lives.
| You ask | Octo answers from |
|---|---|
| "Which placements lost watch time this week and why?" | Your engagement reports, rolled up along the grid |
| "Which brands appear most in my groups' content?" | Your groups' content, when you identify brands for your brand network |
| A question about a line in a report | That report; you can ask from the report itself |
| How to change a setting | The relevant article and the exact setting |
When the answer calls for a change, Act drafts it for your approval.
How it works
- Octo answers from the same reports you see in your Business Account. They roll up along the Hierarchical Grid: network, property, page type, and placement.
- Every answer shows the chart and the rows behind it, so you can check the numbers yourself.
- You refine the question in the thread, then pin the answer to a report. The answer stays next to the numbers it explains.
- Octo reads only what your role allows. It works with the permissions of the role using it, never more.
- Data use follows your agreement and the privacy controls in Privacy and VPPA.
- The Octo panel is on every screen in your Business Account. You can also reach Octo from the search box on any docs page, by email to support@, and in Slack and Teams where connected. 24/7 Octo support covers what happens when a question needs a person.
Set it up
Octo proposes Ask with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.
- Open the Octo panel in your Business Account. It's on every screen.
- Ask your question, refine it, and pin the answers you want to keep to a report. Measure engagement explains the report numbers most answers draw on.
You open the Octo panel from the Octo icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
Settings
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Role permissions | What Octo can read when it answers the person asking |
| Brand scope of the role | Which brands' reports Octo can answer about for that person |
Roles and their brand scopes are set under Settings > Team, as Invite your team and assign roles explains. Changing a person's role changes what Octo can answer for them.
Business Account has four default roles that can't be deleted: Admin, Owner, Content Manager, and Viewer. Admin and Owner have all permissions, Content Manager has a defined subset, and Viewer can only view. A custom role carries the permissions selected for it.
What it reports
Ask keeps two records. Pinned answers stay on the report you pinned them to. Reading the Relevance dashboard explains the measures behind most answers.
- Saved answers: the questions you kept, each with its chart and rows.
- Pinned reports: reports that carry your pinned answers next to their numbers.
Build on it
Ask runs in your Business Account and needs no code. Your team asks from the Octo panel or from any report.
The Supervised Intelligence calls in the Business Account API are proposed, not live. Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what you can call now to what's planned.
