Offer member subscriptions: free and paid tiers
When you finish, your community has a Free member tier and, where you want one, paid tiers that unlock content, groups, live sessions, or perks, with checkout, renewals, and receipts handled for you and every member assigned to a tier. Takes about 10 minutes.
Before you begin
- Auto login connected (see Bring your audience in with auto login and SSO) if you want existing customers recognized as members automatically; otherwise members sign in with a Genuin account.
- A decision on whether anything is paid at launch. A Free tier alone is a complete, valid setup; paid tiers can be added any time.
- Payout details (see Sign your agreement and authorize sellers) before the first paid tier goes live.
What a subscription is on Genuin
A subscription is a member tier on a community or on the whole network. Every network has a Free tier: members join, follow groups, post where allowed, and are recognized across your placements. Paid tiers add a price (monthly or annual, with an optional trial) and unlock what you choose: member-only communities or groups, early access, live sessions and Q&A, ad-free viewing, downloads, or perks you fulfil yourself (merch, events, discounts). Members can be added one at a time, imported from a CSV or your CRM, or mapped from a loyalty or subscriber file, each on the tier you choose, and any member can be comped onto a paid tier at no charge.
| Tier | Price | Typical unlocks | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free member | — | Join, follow, comment, post where allowed; recognized on every placement | Every network; the default for everyone who signs in |
| Supporter | Low monthly | Ad-free viewing, early access, a members-only group | Creators, podcasters, publishers |
| Premium | Monthly or annual | Member-only communities, live sessions and Q&A, downloads, perks | Media companies, education, sports, music |
| Bundle | Added to an existing plan | Genuin tier included with a subscription, loyalty program, or course you already sell | Retailers, consumer services, publishers with existing subscriptions (see Subscriptions, bundles, and paid access) |
Steps
- Tiers are proposed from your model and your content: a Free member tier always, and paid tiers drafted with a name, a price, an interval, and what each unlocks, chosen from the groups and content types with the most demand and from the norms of your vertical. Existing plans found on your site are offered as bundles instead of new tiers.
- The people already known to the network (sign-ins from Bring your audience in with auto login and SSO, creators and hosts from Invite creators, hosts, and contributors, an email list, a CSV, or your CRM) are proposed as Free members; existing paying customers from a loyalty or subscriber file are mapped to the matching paid tier so nobody pays twice.
- Checkout, renewal, dunning, receipts, and cancellation are configured in your brand kit, the paywall is rendered on the player, the hub, and each gated community, and subscription revenue is routed to your wallet (see Revenue reporting, payouts, and the Creator Wallet).
- Everything is customizable before it goes live: rename a tier, change a price or interval, add a trial or a promo code, move an unlock between tiers, add a perk, cap a tier, or keep everything free; the paywall re-renders as you change it and you can preview the network as a member of each tier.
What you confirm
- The tiers: name, price, interval, trial, and what each unlocks. Keep the Free tier alone if you are not ready to charge.
- The member list and each member's tier, including anyone comped onto a paid tier.
- The paywall and checkout as rendered in your brand kit.
- Choose Approve and publish tiers. The Free tier is live immediately; paid tiers go live once payout details are verified (see Sign your agreement and authorize sellers).
Add context. Record your pricing norms, the plans you already sell, and what must always stay free under Brand → Context; tiers and bundles are proposed within those rules.
Support. Help is available 24/7 from Brand Control Center and from every page of these docs. Ask in plain language; when a person is needed, an account manager, developer, or Ops engineer joins the same thread and stays on it until it is resolved. Every Business Account owner has this on every plan (see 24/7 Octo-enabled support: how Octo brings in account managers, developers, and Ops).
What you get
- A Free member tier on your network, and paid tiers with checkout, renewals, and receipts in your brand kit.
- A member roster under Audience → Members with tier, status, renewal date, and source, editable one by one or in bulk.
- Members recognized across every placement (see Bring your audience in with auto login and SSO), so gated content and ad-free viewing follow them.
- Subscription revenue in Reports → Revenue by tier and community, paid out on the calendar from Sign your agreement and authorize sellers (see Subscriptions, bundles, and paid access, Subscriptions and Paid Access, and Revenue reporting, payouts, and the Creator Wallet).
API & SDK
Access: the calls in the table are the proposed Business Account API (see Business Account API: provisioning, OAuth, and the resource map), authenticated with a key scoped to the account and a role or an OAuth client acting for it; every confirmation in this article becomes a proposal you can approve by API (POST /proposals/{proposalId}:approve). Live today, the server API under /api/thirdparty authenticates with a gn-access-token (see Generate an access token), and Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what is live to what is proposed.
