Octo Resolve
Serve-time resolution of a tagged moment or a viewer's question into a commerce outcome: your product, a partner's, or a routed intent.
Octo Resolve decides what a viewer can buy from a video at the moment it plays. A video carries tagged moments, such as the products, places, and mentions Studio detects. Octo matches each moment, or a question the viewer asks, to a commerce outcome that fits the page and the viewer.
This capability arrives as a proposal when your network needs it, filled in from your brand context, and goes live when you confirm it. It's part of Octo, and Dynamic in-video linkouts and affiliate commerce explains how linkouts resolve.
When to use it
Use it on commerce and retail network models. Octo orchestration and generative commerce come with the Commerce Media and Retail Media models in Network models in depth.
| Outcome | When Octo picks it |
|---|---|
| Your product | The moment matches your catalog; your own checkout is used when connected |
| A partner's product | A partner's catalog matches, and you allow it to resolve on your placements |
| An affiliate link | The product isn't in a checkout you've connected, so an affiliate link is used |
| A routed intent | No catalog you allow can serve it, so Octo routes it to a retail assistant or marketplace through Generative Commerce Routing |
How it works
- Studio tags moments in each video with the products, places, and mentions it detects. You can edit the tags.
- At serve time, Octo matches the moment to a catalog using the placement context, the viewer's cohort, and availability.
- The player renders the result as a linkout: buy, add to cart, save, or go to partner.
- Octo is also the assistant inside the player behind Live & Q&A answers and shoppable prompts. A viewer's question resolves into the same kinds of outcome as a tagged moment.
- Because resolution happens at serve time, one video can sell different products on different pages, partners, and days.
- Every click and conversion is attributed, as Attribution: closed-loop commerce and conversion forecasts explains, and reported with revenue and net margin.
Set it up
Octo proposes Resolve with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.
- Connect catalogs and rules under Monetize > Commerce. Learn how in Dynamic in-video linkouts and affiliate commerce.
- Allow Resolve per placement, with a default behavior for each. Dynamic In-Video Linkout covers the per-placement defaults.
Settings
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Resolution rules | The default behavior per placement (your checkout, partner checkout, or affiliate) and any excluded products |
| Partner catalogs | Which partners' catalogs can resolve on your placements |
| Minimum margin | The lowest margin a resolved product must carry |
Change these under Monetize > Commerce. Linkouts appear on tagged moments as soon as you publish.
What it reports
Attributed outcomes appear in Reports > Attribution, and margin in Reports > Margin. Margin Reporting explains how net margin is calculated.
- Resolutions: the tagged moments and viewer questions Octo turned into an outcome.
- Conversions: the purchases and other outcomes attributed to each resolution.
- Margin per moment: the net margin each tagged moment earned.
Build on it
Octo Resolve runs in Brand Control Center and needs no code. The player renders resolved linkouts on every placement that allows them.
The resolve calls in the Business Account API are proposed, not live. Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what you can call now to what's planned.
