VAST Video Tag
Your video packaged as a VAST 4.2 tag for video slots in any DSP, SSP, or CTV platform, with viewability verification included.
A VAST tag is a Genuin player delivered in the IAB video ad format that buyers' platforms already run. It carries the group, experience, and brand kit you choose, plus the tracking macros your buyer uses. The viewer sees your brand's video in someone else's placement, and the engagement comes back to your network.
This capability arrives as a proposal when your network needs it, filled in from your brand context, and goes live when you confirm it. It's part of Offsite, and Offsite: generate IAB-standard tags for your media plan explains how every offsite tag is built and trafficked.
When to use it
Use it wherever the slot is a video slot. For banner inventory, use the JavaScript Display Tag instead. You can generate both formats from the same content.
| Media plan | Where the tag runs |
|---|---|
| Video media plan | Video slots bought through a DSP or SSP |
| CTV | Connected TV platforms that run VAST |
| Partner publisher | The partner's own video player, through its trafficking sheet |
How it works
- The tag uses VAST 4.2 and includes AdVerifications, which carry the viewability verification.
- The content comes from a group, a Quest's winners, a Paid Partner Post, or a dynamic feed that Maya fills by context.
- The tag comes in 9:16 for vertical video and 16:9 for horizontal slots. Studio's Adaptation re-cuts a published video for another placement size.
- Macros pass the buyer's click and impression trackers and the destination's consent state. Macro and Consent Passthrough covers how consent changes what the tag renders.
- When an offsite viewer later lands on your property, unified identity links the two visits under your privacy settings. Attribution then credits the tag.
- Offsite tag views and clicks also feed your audience segments as offsite signals.
Set it up
Octo proposes the tag with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.
- Create a tag under Offsite > Tags, and choose the content source and the VAST format. Learn how in Offsite: generate IAB-standard tags for your media plan.
- Add the buyer's macros for click, impression, and consent. The Ad tag reference: VAST, IAB sizes, and macros lists every macro.
- Paste the tag into the DSP or the trafficking sheet, or hand it to your agency.

What it reports
Reports > Offsite shows these metrics for your offsite tags. Attribution: closed-loop commerce and conversion forecasts explains how outcomes are credited.
- Impressions: each time the tag serves in a buyer's slot.
- Viewability: measured through the AdVerifications in the tag.
- Completion: the share of plays watched to the end.
- Clicks: viewers who click back to your properties.
- Attributed outcomes: conversions credited to the tag after an offsite viewer reaches your property. Offsite Attribution Postbacks also sends them to the buyer's tools.
Build on it
Brand Control Center generates the tag, so trafficking it needs no code. Serve your first ad covers the live ad surfaces, such as in-feed ads and IAB units rendered from a tag ID in your app. Receive engagement events in your own analytics sends what viewers do in Genuin views to your analytics tool and your warehouse.
The tag calls in the Business Account API are proposed, not live. Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what you can call now to what's planned.
