Horizontal Video Player Placement
A 16:9 landscape player with a playlist rail, for in-article and desktop layouts where a vertical feed would fight the page.
The Horizontal Video Player plays clips in a wide frame, with a playlist rail that viewers move through. It fills slots that are built for width, such as desktop article bodies and leaderboards. Maya ranks the clips for the page's context and the viewer, as it does in the Vertical Video Player.
This capability arrives as a proposal when your network needs it, filled in from your brand context, and goes live when you confirm it. It's part of Onsite, and Onsite contextual placements explains how a placement takes its context from the page.
When to use it
Use it for long-form embeds, desktop article bodies, help centers, and product demo pages. It also fills any 728 × 90 or 970 × 250 carousel slot.
| Slot | Declared size | Footprint on the page |
|---|---|---|
| In-article | 336 × 280 | 340 × 284 |
| Leaderboard carousel | 728 × 90 | 732 × 94 |
| Billboard carousel | 970 × 250 | 974 × 254 |
| Grid or carousel layout | Fluid | Container width + 4 |
How it works
- The placement sits on a page type in your Hierarchical Grid, with a landscape size from the table above.
- The card adds 2 px of padding outside its declared size. Reserve the footprint, not the declared size, to avoid layout shift, as the Player card sizes and IAB footprint spec describes.
- The placement allows Shorts, Shoppable, or both. Maya picks between the allowed experiences for each viewer, and switching never changes the embed snippet.
- Studio's Adaptation re-cuts your published vertical clips to landscape automatically, for this player and its sizes.
- Each page type uses a carousel or an inline layout.
Set it up
Octo proposes the placement with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.
- Register a placement on the page type with a landscape size: 336 × 280, 728 × 90, 970 × 250, or fluid. Learn how in Register your placements on the Hierarchical Grid.
- Allow Shorts or Shoppable on the placement, and set its player to horizontal. Learn how in Pick your first player experience.
- Choose the carousel or inline layout for each page type under Controls > Feed settings. Learn how in Player Controls and Feed Settings.
Settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Player | Horizontal |
| Layout | Carousel or inline, per page type |
| Experiences | Shorts, Shoppable, or both |
| Landscape clips | Re-cut from vertical clips by Adaptation, automatically |
Change the layout per page type in Player Controls and Feed Settings, without code. In the Web SDK, the layout comes from the placement's style in Brand Control Center, so a layout change needs no change to your site.
What it reports
Reports > Onsite shows the same engagement measures as the vertical player, plus playlist depth. Measure engagement explains how each one is counted.
- Watch time per user per minute: the engagement metric Maya is measured on.
- Completion: the share of plays that reach 90 percent.
- Follows: follows per thousand views.
- Playlist depth: how far a viewer moves through the playlist rail.
- Lift: the change against the placement's holdout, set in Placement Experiments and Holdouts.

Add it to your site
The Web SDK renders this placement today. Add a Genuin placement to your website covers the placement and style IDs, and Embed the Genuin Web SDK on your website covers loading the script. Customize the Genuin video player sets sizes, tile layouts, and the profile menu.
The placement calls in the Business Account API are proposed, not live. Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what you can call now to what's planned.
