What a media network is on Genuin
A media network on Genuin is your brand's own distribution and monetization system: the places your video appears (your site, your apps, partner sites, the open web), the audience that watches it, and the revenue those views create. Reading time about 4 minutes; nothing to configure.
The three things every network has
- Inventory – the placements where video renders. On your own properties these are embeds; on partner properties they are slots you have been granted; on the open web they are IAB-standard ad tags. All of them are registered on one map called the Hierarchical Grid (see Register your placements on the Hierarchical Grid).
- Communities – the content itself, organized as brand communities and groups so that every feed is relevant to the page, the person, and the moment (see Upload your videos or connect your social profile).
- Demand – who pays: brand partners through Paid Partner Posts and Takeovers, programmatic buyers through an ad server, subscribers through paid access, or shoppers through in-video commerce (see Choose your monetization agreement).
Why the same system works for a podcaster and a retailer
A podcaster has one property, one community, and wants distribution and a revenue share. A retailer has hundreds of page types, first-party purchase data, and wants to price every impression to margin. Both register inventory the same way, both publish content the same way, and both plug demand into the same grid. The difference is scale and which demand sources are switched on, which is why the Get Started steps never fork into separate paths.
What Genuin runs for you
Genuin hosts and serves the video, ranks every feed with Maya (its relevance engine), produces and adapts content through Studio and Canvas, and, on managed plans, operates the ad stack on your behalf. You own the brand, the audience relationship, the data, and the revenue decisions.
What Octo does
Nothing to configure in this article. Octo reads it the same way you do: inventory, communities, and demand are the three things it will build for you in Steps 2 to 5, and your approvals at each step are what make the network yours. From here on every card has the same shape: Octo proposes, you review, you approve.
What you approve
- Nothing yet. If you want to see what Octo will propose for your model before you continue, ask it ("show me the network you would build for a regional news publisher") and it drafts the whole plan for review.
Make Octo smarter
- The more Octo knows about your brand (crawl, guidelines, catalog, audience notes), the closer its first proposal is to what you would have built.
Need help? Octo is available 24/7 in BCC and on every page of these docs. Ask it in plain language; when the answer needs a person, Octo brings the right account manager, developer, or Ops engineer into the same thread and stays on it until it is solved. Every Business Account owner has this, on every plan (see 24/7 Octo-enabled support: how Octo brings in account managers, developers, and Ops).
