How embeds work
An embed is a feed configuration saved in your Business Account that Genuin renders wherever its code is pasted, with analytics for each embed.
Embeds bring videos from your social experience to the pages where your visitors already are: your home page, product pages, campaign landing pages, and blog. Visitors watch and interact with the videos without leaving your site.
You configure an embed once under Grow > On Site and paste a few lines of code. New posts appear in the embed automatically, with no change to the page. Embeds are part of Onsite; for the whole product, see Onsite: what it does and where to start.
What an embed is
An embed has three parts: a feed source, a style, and a set of options.
| Part | Choices | What it decides |
|---|---|---|
| Feed source | Brand Feed, Community Feed, Group Feed | Which videos appear. Brand Feed shows videos the brand created or approved, published across the brand. Community Feed and Group Feed show the communities or groups you pick, one or several. |
| Style | Standard Wall, Feed, Carousel | How the videos are laid out: a full browsing wall of tiles, a vertical scrolling feed with a headline and button, or a horizontal row to swipe through. |
| Options | Size, aspect ratio, header and side panel, engagement tools, links, autoplay, the expanded player | How the player looks and what a visitor can do in it. |
Options also include Show Join Community Button, Show Community Share Button, and Enable Redirection to community, group, or user pages. Feed Display Preference and Loop Video are options too.
Each style suits a different kind of page:
| Style | Layout | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Wall | Full video browsing layout | Dedicated video sections |
| Feed | Vertical scrolling experience | Discovery pages |
| Carousel | Horizontal scrolling video row | Home pages and product pages |
An embed is one source and one style. A second layout on the same page is a second embed. The source is live: a video published today appears in every embed that shows its community or group.
The Carousel style is the common choice on mobile. Its horizontal, swipeable row lets visitors browse several videos without leaving the page, which suits product highlights, creator recommendations, and campaign content.
For every option with its default and limit, see the Embed configuration reference. To control the overlays, buttons, and actions viewers see, see Control what viewers see and can do on embedded videos.
Create an embed
- In your Business Account, go to Grow > On Site > Embed.
- Click + New to open the embed configuration panel.
- Enter a unique name for the embed, such as "Homepage Community Feed" or "Product Page Video Carousel". The name helps you find and manage the embed later.
- Choose the Embed Type, which sets the feed source: Brand Feed, Community Feed, or Group Feed.
- Choose the Embed Style: Standard Wall, Feed, or Carousel.
- Click View Embed Code to open a side panel with the generated code, then copy the snippet.
- Paste the code where the videos belong, such as a home page content module, a product page, a campaign landing page, or a community section. The videos render as soon as the page loads with the code.
One embed can sit on as many pages as you like.
How an embed reaches your page
The web code you paste is a container, the SDK script, and one call:
<div id="gen-sdk" class="gen-sdk-class" style="width: 800px; height: 600px"></div>
<script src="https://media.begenuin.com/sdk/<<SDK_VERSION>>/gen_sdk.min.js"></script>
<script>
window.genuin.init({ embed_id: '{{EMBED_ID}}', api_key: '<<YOUR_API_KEY>>' })
</script>The page holds only the embed ID and your API key. When the page loads, the SDK asks Genuin for that embed's configuration, loads the feed it points to, and renders it in the container. Everything else lives in your Business Account:
- The configuration. The feed source, the style, and every option.
- Monetization. If the embed belongs to a monetization preset, the SDK receives the preset with the configuration. It then runs the preset's in-feed cards, in-stream ads, or partnered takeover inside the embed. Learn more about monetization presets.
- Sponsorship. When a partnered takeover is live on the feed, the SDK receives the sponsorship with the embed and plays the sponsor's content first. Learn more about the Paid Partner Takeover.
The SDK version is pinned in the script URL. To move a page to a newer SDK, regenerate the code from View Embed Code. The same panel gives the equivalent code for iOS, Android, React Native, Flutter, and Angular. Embed support by platform lists what each one renders, and Embed the Genuin Web SDK on your website covers the web code in full.
Embeds, placements, and SDK feeds
Embeds are one of three ways to show videos from your social experience outside its own pages. Pick by how much the content has to change with its surroundings.
| Tool | Content is chosen by | Use it for | Built in |
|---|---|---|---|
| Embed | You, once, in your Business Account | A feed that's the same on every page it's on: a home page carousel, a blog wall, a community section | Grow > On Site > Embed |
| Placement | The page, at load time, from page context, URL, and location | Product pages and journeys where each page needs its own videos | Grow > On Site > Placement |
| SDK feed | The app, through the native SDK | A full-screen feed, camera, or community tab inside your mobile app | The iOS and Android SDKs |
A placement is still a style plus a feed, but the SDK sends the page's context with the request and Genuin picks the videos for each page. Learn more in Build a placement with styles, sections, and variables and Deliver contextual feeds with page, user, and location context.
Manage embeds
After you create an embed, it appears in the embed list under Grow > On Site > Embed. Each card shows the embed's name, its feed source and style, and an Active dot if Mark as Active is selected. An embed that belongs to a monetization preset shows the preset's name on a pill.
Search the list by name, or download the content URL CSV with the download icon. Each card's menu offers these actions:
| Action | What it does |
|---|---|
| Edit Embed | Opens the builder. A role with view-only access sees View Embed instead. |
| Duplicate Embed | Copies a default embed into a new one you can rename and change. Default embeds only. |
| Copy Embed ID | Copies the ID to paste into code or share with a developer. |
| Add to Monetization Preset | Attaches the embed to a preset under Settings > Ad Configuration. An embed belongs to one preset at a time. Once attached, the item reads Go to Monetization Preset. |
| Delete Embed | Removes the configuration after a confirmation. Not offered on default embeds. |
Settings > Ad Configuration also has an Embeds tab. It lists each embed with the preset it's linked to, and each row's menu offers Go to Preset and Add to Preset.
What each person can do follows the On Site permissions of their brand role: create, edit, delete, or view only.
Every brand starts with seven default embeds. All of them use Brand Feed, are named for common page types such as Home/Search, Blog, PDP, and Post-Sales, and use the Carousel, Feed, and Standard Wall styles. They give you working code on day one. Duplicate one to make it your own; the originals stay.
The content URL CSV lists the brand's share links for its communities, groups, videos, and pages, each tagged with utm_medium=QR. Print them as QR codes on packaging or in stores, and the scans show up in the analytics panel.
Edit an embed
- In the embed list, open the embed card's menu.
- Click Edit Embed.
- Update the feed source, the layout, or other options.
- Save the changes, and confirm when Business Account asks.
The change applies to every page that uses the embed the next time the page loads. You don't paste the code again.
Delete an embed
- In the embed list, open the embed card's menu and click Delete Embed.
- Confirm the action.
Deleting is permanent. The configuration is gone, the analytics for that embed are no longer reachable, and every pasted instance stops working and can show an error. Remove the code from your pages as well.
What the analytics report
The panel beside the embed list reports on all embeds or on one. Select Global Analytics for all embeds or a card for one, pick a date range, and click Apply. By default, the range is the last week. Definition of Metrics on the panel explains each figure.
| Metric | What it measures |
|---|---|
| Video impressions | Number of times a video in the embed was displayed |
| Unique users | Number of distinct viewers of the embed in the range |
| Embed Impressions | Number of times the embed loaded on a page |
| Video watched duration | Total time spent watching videos, in hours |
| Video completion rate | Percentage of video plays that reached the end |
Below the tiles, the same dashboard breaks the figures down by embed, community, group, video, and date. The QR Analytics tab reports the visits that arrived through the QR-tagged share links.
Limitations
- One source and one style per embed. Use a second embed for a second layout.
- Edits are live. There's no draft or preview URL for a saved embed; the builder's preview is the only rehearsal.
- Default embeds can't be deleted. Duplicate them, or leave them unused.
- Mark as Active is a label. It shows the dot on the card. Genuin serves the embed whether or not it's selected.
- No undo for delete. Recreate the embed and update the code on every page.
