Schedule recurring imports from an RSS or MRSS feed
Learn how to set a scheduler that imports videos from an RSS or MRSS feed URL on a recurring basis and publishes them automatically or after review.
A scheduler automates video ingestion and publishing from one feed URL, so you don't run imports by hand and the communities you choose get videos on a predictable cadence. Genuin runs each import in the background on the schedule you set and, after the first run, fetches only new videos.
Feed imports are part of content curation in your Business Account, under the rules that Control sets for every post. For the product as a whole, see Control: what it does and where to start.
Create a scheduler
You create a scheduler from an RSS or MRSS import in your Business Account. Learn how to set up the import in Import videos from an RSS or MRSS feed.
- Add the RSS feed URL and choose the destination community and groups.
- Click Schedule to create a draft scheduler with the default settings.
- Review the draft scheduler's frequency, time, time zone, posting behavior, source, and destination.
- Click Save to set the scheduler. To discard the draft instead, click Cancel.
You can click Schedule before you add the feed link, after you add it, or after you also choose the community and groups. If you haven't chosen the community and groups yet, you can pick them in the scheduler panel.
Default settings
By default, a new draft scheduler uses these settings:
| Setting | Default |
|---|---|
| Import frequency | Daily |
| Time | 11:00 AM |
| Time zone | Brand default |
| Posting | Auto publish immediately |
| Source | RSS Feed URL |
| Destination | Selected Community & Groups |
For every scheduler option, see scheduler configuration.
Scheduler states
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Draft | Not saved yet |
| Saved | Ready for execution |
| Executing | Running a scheduled job |
Import with a scheduler
When you click Import on the feed, the import runs according to whether you saved its scheduler:
- Scheduler not saved: the Import and schedule? popup asks how to run the import. Direct Import runs a one-time task. Import and Schedule saves the scheduler, runs the one-time task, and starts the recurring schedule.
- Scheduler saved: the import starts directly, and the scheduler keeps running on its schedule.
If you don't save the scheduler, only a one-time import runs.
Choose drafts, auto-publish, or scheduled publishing
The posting behavior decides whether imported videos go live on their own. By default, a scheduler uses Auto publish immediately.
| Posting behavior | What happens |
|---|---|
| Save as drafts (manual posting) | Videos wait for review before publishing, and you edit them in the Activity dashboard |
| Auto publish immediately | Videos go live immediately after import |
| Schedule publishing | Videos publish automatically at a date and time you set |
Use Save as drafts (manual posting) when content needs moderation or manual approval.
Learn more about reviewing content in Moderation Baselines and Queue.
Schedule publishing imports on one cadence and publishes on another at a set time. The import frequency decides which posting options you get:
| Import frequency | Posting options |
|---|---|
| Hourly | Draft or Auto Publish |
| Daily | Draft, Auto Publish, or scheduled daily, weekly, or monthly |
| Weekly | Draft, Auto Publish, or scheduled weekly or monthly |
| Monthly | Draft, Auto Publish, or scheduled monthly |
That makes 14 combinations, and RSS and MRSS feeds support all 14.
Auto-published videos appear in the Approved tab as soon as the import completes. Scheduled videos show in both Awaiting to post and Scheduled to post, tagged Scheduled, and move to Approved at the set time.
Edit a scheduler
You can change a scheduler after you save it. Edits apply only to future imports. You can update:
- The RSS URL
- Authorization
- Query parameters
- The community and group
- The schedule time
- The posting behavior
When you edit a scheduler, keep these behaviors in mind:
- URL edits: changing the URL triggers re-validation of the feed.
- Authorization changes: changing the authorization resets the previous credentials.
- Earlier imports: videos you already imported don't change.
Business Account warns you before you change a feed: "Changing feed configuration may affect future imports from this RSS feed."
How scheduled runs work
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Execution timing | Runs on the configured schedule; by default, daily |
| Background processing | Cron-based background jobs trigger each automated import |
| Content fetching | After the initial run, each execution fetches only new (delta) content |
Limitations
- One scheduler per feed: you can create only one scheduler for each unique RSS or MRSS feed URL. Two schedulers can't use the same URL.
- No retroactive changes: scheduler edits don't affect videos you already imported; they apply only to future runs.
