Mark and manage house ads
Mark posts as house ads in Brand Control Center (BCC) so owned content fills ad placements as fallback when no sponsored or programmatic ad is available.
A house ad is one of your own posts that Genuin uses as fallback content in the ad waterfall. When a placement has no paid ad to show, a house ad fills the slot, so unused inventory still carries your content.
House ads also let you promote campaigns, announcements, or key content without an external sponsor. You decide which posts act as internal promotions across your placements. House ads are part of Control; for the rest of the product, see Control: what it does and where to start.
Every post has one monetization status: House Ad, Sponsored, or Organic. A post can't be a house ad and sponsored at the same time.
Mark a post as a house ad
You can mark a post from Manage or from Curate. Only posts in your brand's own destination communities are eligible.
Mark a post from Manage
- In BCC, go to Manage > Posts.
- Click the post you want to mark to open its Post Details page.
- In the Monetization section, select the House Ad checkbox.
- In the Monetize this Post as a House Ad? dialog, click Confirm. Click Cancel to leave the post unchanged.
- Click Save on the post details. The post is now marked as House Ad.
The dialog reads: "This post will be a fallback in the waterfall for all ad placement configurations. Infra cost of House Ad will be excluded of media CPM, and will be billed as per min watch time cost based on your MSA."
Mark a post from Curate
- In the left navigation, go to Curate > Activity.
- Select the Approved tab and click the post you want to manage.
- In the post detail window, select the House Ad checkbox in the Monetization section.
- Click Confirm in the dialog, then click Save.
Unapproved posts in Curate can also be marked as house ads. They can't be sponsored.
Unmark a house ad
Unmarking a house ad reverts the post to Organic.
- Open the post's details from Manage > Posts.
- In the Monetization section, clear the House Ad checkbox.
- In the Remove House Ad Monetization? dialog, click Remove.
- Click Save. The post reverts to Organic.
Genuin requires at least one house ad to stay in place as fallback while in-feed ads are active in your ad configuration. If you clear House Ad on a post in that state, BCC shows an error and keeps the post as a house ad. Click Go to Posts to return to the Manage post list. Learn more about in-feed ads in Configure ad monetization with presets.
Find a post and open its sponsorship
A sponsored post shows its sponsorship details in the post list and on its details page.
To find one post, enter its video ID in the search tool. The list then shows only the matching post.
Remove the video ID from the search bar to restore the full list. The post you searched for returns to its usual chronological or sorted place instead of staying at the top.
Click Edit Sponsorship to open the sponsorship management interface. Learn more in Manage and track sponsorship campaigns.
See which posts are house ads
BCC shows a post's monetization status in three places:
- Manage list view: the Monetization column shows House Ad, Sponsored, or Organic for each post.
- Post Details page: shows the House Ad label, and sponsorship details when the post is sponsored.
- Filters in Manage: filter by Monetization to list House Ad, Sponsored, or Organic posts.
The filter supports multi-select filtering, so you can list more than one type at once. For example, select House Ad and Sponsored together to see every monetized post.
How house ads work
House ads act as fallback content in the ad waterfall. In an ad configuration preset, House (Fallback Content) is an in-feed ad type that's on by default.
The SDK logs each post's content type as House Ads or Sponsored Posts, so the two are tracked separately. Learn more about How the Genuin SDK places ads in a feed.
House ads don't generate revenue. Infrastructure cost for a house ad is excluded from CPM and billed separately based on watch time, as set out in your MSA.
| Status | What it can become |
|---|---|
| House Ad | Can't be sponsored |
| Sponsored | Can't be a house ad |
| Organic | A house ad or a sponsored post |
Approved posts can be house ads. Unapproved posts in Curate can be house ads but can't be sponsored.
Common uses
- Fill empty inventory: when programmatic demand is low, mark internal posts as house ads so your placements are always filled.
- Promote your own campaigns: mark a new campaign's videos as house ads to give them visibility without external sponsors.
- Change a post's role: when you remove a post from a sponsorship campaign, you can convert it into a house ad for internal promotion.
Limitations
- One status per post: a post can't be a house ad and sponsored at once.
- Posts in a sponsorship: the House Ad option is disabled, with the tooltip "Remove this post from sponsorships to mark as House Ad". Remove the post from its sponsorships first.
- Your own destinations only: only posts in your brand's own destination communities can be house ads. Posts from other brands' destinations aren't eligible, and BCC restricts the action.
- No revenue: house ads don't generate revenue.
- No bulk marking: you mark one post at a time.
- No dedicated analytics: BCC has no advanced analytics specific to house ads.
