YouTube is pitching itself as the future of media.
YouTube is pitching itself as the future of media. 244 million U.S. adult viewers. Number 1 in watch time for three years running. Over $100 billion paid to creators. At Brandcast, they rolled out creator content like a TV network, premiere dates, press kits, seasonal slates and all. BUT... the very same week, the WSJ reported a seventh grader accessed 13,000+ YouTube videos during school hours. This is what school chromebooks give students access to: Gun content. Simulated head shots. At least when we were kids, you had to sneak into an R-rated movie to see that every once in awhile. Oh, and 6th graders' top search... "Going to Epstein Island." Many things can be true at once... and WIL this week is about the YouTube paradox and what it all says about where media is actually heading.
