Configure ad monetization with presets

Set up ad configuration presets in your Business Account to control which ad types run, how often they appear, and where, across web and mobile apps.

An ad configuration preset is a saved set of ad rules: which ad types run in your feeds and videos, where the first ad appears, and how often ads repeat. You assign a preset to placements and embeds, and Genuin applies it on Web, iOS, Android, and Mobile Web.

Presets let your team balance revenue against viewer experience without engineering work. You can preview how ads appear before a preset goes live. Presets are part of Control; for the rest of the product, see Control: what it does and where to start.

Open ad configuration

  1. In your Business Account, go to Settings > Ad Configuration.
Step 1: Ad Configuration lists every monetization preset.
  1. Choose how to start: use a default preset, or create a custom preset.

The Monetization Presets list view shows all presets. From it, you can search and filter presets, duplicate them, edit or delete custom presets, and create new ones.

Each preset row shows its tag, ad formats, environments, and status: Active or Inactive. Default presets carry the Default tag.

Search, filter, duplicate, and more actions in the list view.

A default preset is ready to use and pre-configured, for a fast setup. A custom preset gives you complete control, for advanced setups or specific campaigns.

Who can change presets

What you can do in Ad Configuration depends on your role:

RoleAccess
Owner or AdminView, create, edit, duplicate, and delete custom presets
Content ManagerView and edit presets, but not delete custom presets
ViewerRead only. New Preset, Duplicate, Delete, and Save are disabled, and fields can't be edited.

People without access can't open the Ad Configuration page, even with its direct URL.

Use a default preset

Genuin provides five default presets:

PresetBest for
GlobalThe Home, Latest, and Popular feeds of the web app and mobile app; its ad settings are editable
PremiumA premium experience with only direct-sourced paid partnerships
BalancedOptimized to avoid back-to-back ad fatigue
ConservativeA content-first experience
AggressiveMaximum monetization

You can assign placements to Premium, Balanced, Conservative, and Aggressive, but you can't edit their ad logic, change their ad frequency, or delete them. To customize one, duplicate it and edit the copy. A good starting point is Balanced. Global covers the Home, Latest, and Popular feeds, so it has no placements or embeds. You can edit all its ad settings, but not its name or description, and you can't duplicate or delete it.

Each default preset starts with these settings:

PresetIn-FeedPartnered TakeoverIn-StreamAd controls
PremiumOn. Partnered Post only. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 4.OnOffMatch video player ratio, Mute on Start off, Duration on
BalancedOn. Partnered Post and Video Ads. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 4.OnOn. Start Content Video 4, Repeat Frequency 4.Match video player ratio, Mute on Start off, Duration on
ConservativeOn. Partnered Post and Video Ads only. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 4.OnOffMatch video player ratio, Mute on Start on, Duration on
AggressiveOn. All ad types. Start Slot 2, Repeat Frequency 2.OnOn. Start Content Video 4, Repeat Frequency 4.Allow all aspect ratios, Mute on Start off, Duration on

Conservative keeps video content pure, so ads appear only while viewers scroll. Aggressive generates back-to-back ads.

Find a preset

Use the filters on the list view to narrow the presets you see.

Filter presets by platform, ad type, placement, or embed.
FilterOptions
PlatformWeb, iOS, Android, Mobile Web
Ad TypeIn-Feed, In-Stream, Partnered Takeover
PlacementsAll, or specific placements
EmbedsAll, or specific embeds

Search narrows the list by preset name as you type, and it ignores case. When nothing matches, the list shows No results found.

Search and filters work together. You can combine options from several filter categories at once.

Duplicate a preset

Click the ⧉ icon on a preset to duplicate it. Genuin names the copy Preset plus the next number, such as Preset 6 when you have five presets, and skips names already taken. The copy is immediately editable.

Duplicate Preset creates an editable copy.

The copy carries the In-Feed, In-Stream, and Partnered Takeover settings and environment rules of the source, but not its placements or embeds. You can duplicate any preset except Global.

Business Account makes the copy right away, with no confirmation, and adds it at the bottom of the list.

Edit or delete a custom preset

You can delete custom presets only. On default presets, Delete Preset shows in the menu but is disabled.

  1. Click ⋯ on the preset, then click Edit Preset or Delete Preset.
Step 1: Edit Preset and Delete Preset appear on custom presets.
  1. To delete, confirm in the Delete Preset? popup. Edit Preset opens the preset editor directly.
  2. To edit, make your changes in the configuration window that opens, then save them.

Warning

Deleting a preset is permanent and can't be undone. To keep its settings, duplicate the preset before you delete it.

Delete opens a confirmation popup. After you confirm, Business Account removes the preset from the list right away and shows a success message.

You can delete a custom preset even when placements or embeds are assigned to it.

Create a custom preset

  1. Click + New Preset.
Step 1: Start a custom preset with + New Preset.
  1. Enter a Preset Name. It's required, up to 50 characters.
  2. (Optional) Enter a Description of up to 200 characters.
  3. Under Select environment to show ads, select Global to cover all platforms, or select Custom settings to configure each platform on its own tab: Web, Mobile Web, iOS, and Android.
Step 4: Choose Global, or Custom settings to pick platforms.
  1. Select the Placements & Embeds the preset applies to.
Step 5: Pick the placements and embeds for the preset.
  1. Configure in-feed ads, in-stream ads, a Partnered Takeover, and the ad experience controls, as described in the sections below.

Choose environments and ad servers

With Custom settings, the editor shows a tab for each platform: Web, Mobile Web, iOS, and Android. Each tab holds its own configuration.

Switching between Global and Custom settings opens a popup that asks you to confirm. Going back to Global resets the platform tabs and applies the Web tab's configuration everywhere.

The editor also lists the ad servers you set up in Demand Settings, with Header Bidding as a single option. A new preset starts with your default ad server selected, and you can remove it once you select another.

Configure in-feed ads

In-feed ads run between pieces of content in a feed. Turn on the ad types you want:

In-feed ad types, each with its own toggle.
Ad typeCategoryDescription
Partnered PostPartneredDirect-sold partnered content with the standard interaction interface
Video AdsProgrammaticVideo ads from programmatic sources
House (Fallback Content)Fallback, always onContent that shows when no paid ad is available, set in your Business Account

House fallback content comes from the posts you mark as house ads. Learn how in Mark and manage house ads. For programmatic demand, see Set up programmatic ads in your feeds.

House (Fallback Content) is always on, and you can't turn it off. Drag the ad type rows to set their priority.

Partnered Post must be on for partnered posts from a paid partnership to appear. Video Ads appear only when the selected ad server supports them, even with the toggle on.

The In-Feed section stays collapsed while its toggle is off. Turning it on expands the section.

Configure in-stream ads

In-stream ads play inside a video. Turn each position on or off:

In-stream ad settings, starting with the Pre-roll position.
PositionWhen it playsEffect on experience and views
Pre-rollBefore the main videoThe most common format, and the best for guaranteed ad impressions
Mid-rollHalfway through the videoReaches a high completion rate, but interrupts the video and can hurt the viewer experience
Post-rollAfter the video endsThe least disruptive option, with the lowest number of guaranteed views

Avoid running many mid-roll ads, because each one interrupts the video.

In-Stream is on in a new preset. Business Account doesn't show separate pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll switches. The selected demand source decides the ad types, and pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll ads play automatically.

Each ad type plays only when the selected ad server supports it.

Configure a Partnered Takeover

A Partnered Takeover turns the whole feed over to direct-sold partnered content. Use it for high-impact campaigns only. Learn more about sponsored posts and takeovers.

The Sponsored Takeover toggle and its feed preview.
SettingWhat it does
Partnered Takeover toggleTurns full-feed takeover mode on or off
Video Feed as Sponsored TakeoverWhen selected, replaces the entire video feed area with the sponsored video experience
Preview PanelShows a live miniature of the takeover layout across feed slots, on the right side of the page

The Partnered Takeover section always shows in the preset editor, and its toggle is on by default. When it's on, it overrides every other ad type in the main feed preview.

The toggle must be on for takeover paid partnerships to appear on the preset's placements and embeds. Its own smaller preview, Video Feed Preview for Partnered Takeover, sits below the toggle.

Set ad experience controls

These controls decide how ads look and sound to the viewer.

Aspect ratio, sound, and duration controls for ads.
ControlWhat it setsOptions
Ad Aspect RatioWhich ad creative aspect ratios can showAllow all aspect ratios (default) accepts ads of any ratio. Match video player ratio accepts only ads that match the player's ratio.
Mute on StartThe starting audio of video ads, set separately for In-Feed and In-StreamWhen on, video ads start without sound.
DurationWhether the viewer sees the ad's countdownWhen on, the ad's remaining duration is shown.

In-Feed and In-Stream each have their own controls. Ad Aspect Ratio defaults to Allow all aspect ratios, and Duration defaults to off, in both.

Mute on Start is on by default for In-Feed and off by default for In-Stream.

Save the preset

  • Save stays disabled until you change something. On a custom preset, every validation rule must pass too.
  • After a save, Business Account shows a success message, and the breadcrumb changes from New Preset to the preset's name.
  • A new preset becomes Active once you save it, and it appears at the bottom of the list.
  • Cancel reverts unsaved changes and shows an Unsaved Changes popup before you return to the list.
  • Leaving the page with unsaved changes shows the same warning.

Set where ads start and repeat

Ad positions in a feed follow two settings:

  • Start Slot: the slot where the first ad appears.
  • Repeat Frequency: how often ads repeat after that.

For example, with Start Slot 2 and Repeat Frequency 4, ads appear in slots 2, 6, 10, 14, and so on. Use these settings to control how often viewers see ads while they scroll. For the ranges and in-stream equivalents, see Configure vertical video ad placements and frequency.

Assign the preset to placements

  1. Select where the preset applies, such as feeds or embeds.
  2. Save your selection.

Once you assign a preset, ads start appearing according to its configuration. You can assign a different preset to each placement or embed.

Preset changes reach the SDK after the page reloads.

Ad Configuration also has Placements and Embeds tabs. Each tab lists your placements or embeds with the preset each one is linked to.

  • Linked rows come first. Unlinked rows show - for the preset and show as inactive.
  • Each row shows its environments as icons, with a tooltip when you hover.
  • The three-dot menu offers Go to Preset, which opens the linked preset, and Add to Preset, which opens the preset list.
  • Clicking a linked row opens its preset. Clicking an unlinked row does nothing.
  • Both tabs support sorting by name, search, and pagination.

Check the feed preview

Before you publish, use the feed preview to check how ads appear in the feed, during video playback, and in Partnered Takeover mode. The preview mirrors the actual feed logic and updates within 500 ms of a change.

The preview shows 15 cards. Three radio buttons switch its mode: Content, In-Feed, and In-Stream.

If the preview doesn't match what you expect, make sure the preset's slot settings and environment targeting are what you intended.

How Genuin fills an ad slot

When no ad is available for a slot, Genuin shows fallback content from house ads. If no fallback is available either, Genuin skips the slot, so the feed shows no empty space.

If Partnered Post is off in a preset, no partnered posts appear. If Video Ads is off too, House (Fallback Content) fills those slots.

House ads serve as the default fallback. Always configure them, so your slots have owned content to show when paid ads don't fill.

Set up ad servers in Demand Settings

Demand Settings holds the ad servers that supply ads to your presets. You set them up in the Demand Settings drawer in Ad Configuration.

Ad serverMore than oneHow you add it
Google Ad Manager (GAM)YesConnect Your Account with a Google account, or enter an account name and a VAST or VMAP link
PangleYesAn account name, an App ID, and up to 5 slot configuration rows
Header BiddingNo, each server oncePick from 300+ ad servers, with InfyTV as the default server
  • Connect Your Account signs you in with Google, then a popup lists the account's ad units. Select at least one to connect.
  • Connected ad units appear with their traffic rate. Editing the account reopens the popup, where you add or remove ad units.
  • You can't change the name, network code, or ID of an ad unit you already added. If you disconnect the account, those ad units stay listed.
  • To add GAM manually, enter an account name of up to 100 characters and a valid VAST or VMAP link. Both are required.

Pangle

  • Each account has an App ID and up to 5 slot rows. Each row has a Slot ID and an ad format.
  • App ID and Slot ID are required, and both must be numeric.
  • The formats, in order, are interstitial, native, rewarded, banner_320x50, and banner_320x250. Each format works once per account, so formats used in another row are disabled.
  • When only one slot row exists, its delete button is hidden.

Header Bidding

  • Search the 300+ ad servers and add the ones you want. Each server asks for its own fields and applies its own validation.
  • For a server that isn't listed, choose Custom and enter an account name and a VAST or VMAP link.
  • Once you add a server, its Add button becomes Edit, Delete, and an on/off toggle. A server that's off stays configured but gets no traffic.
  • InfyTV is the default server. You can't edit or delete it, only turn it on or off.
  • At least one server must stay on. If InfyTV is off and only one server is on, that server locks: you can't edit, delete, or turn it off.
  • The list shows servers that are on, then servers that are off, then servers not yet added, each from A to Z.
  • The Header Bidding card shows up to three server chips, plus +N more for the rest. Edit on the card opens the server list.

Traffic rate and the default ad server

  • All Header Bidding servers share one traffic rate. Each GAM and Pangle server has its own.
  • Traffic rate is required and can't exceed 100%.
  • Header Bidding starts as the default ad server. Hover over another ad server to see Set as default.
  • Changing the default asks you to confirm. The new default applies only to new presets, and existing presets keep their ad server.

Delete an ad server

  • You can't delete an ad server that a preset uses. Remove it from the preset, or delete the preset, first.
  • You can't delete the default ad server until you set another one as default.
  • Business Account shows a message each time you add, update, or delete an ad server.

Limitations

  • Preset name: required, up to 50 characters.
  • Description: optional, up to 200 characters.
  • Preset name rules: at least 3 characters, no leading or trailing spaces, and no duplicate names.
  • Description spaces: trailing spaces aren't allowed.
  • Number of presets: there's no limit on custom presets.
  • Default presets: on Premium, Balanced, Conservative, and Aggressive, you can assign placements only. You can't edit their ad logic, change their ad frequency, or delete them. On Global, you can edit every ad setting, but you can't change its name or description, duplicate it, or delete it.
  • One preset per placement: a placement or embed belongs to only one preset at a time. If you pick one that's in another preset, Business Account asks you to confirm with Confirm & Apply, and it moves to this preset when you save.
