Sticky Mini-Player

A small player that docks to a corner and keeps playing as the viewer scrolls or navigates between pages on your site, preserving the session for Maya.

The Sticky Mini-Player keeps a video or an episode going when the viewer moves on. When the viewer scrolls past the placement or opens another page, the player docks to a corner and plays on. The session stays intact, so Maya keeps ranking with what the viewer already watched.

This capability arrives as a proposal when your network needs it, filled in from your brand context, and goes live when you confirm it. It's part of Onsite, and Onsite contextual placements explains how a session carries across the placements on your pages.

When to use it

Use it where viewers stay a while or move between pages.

  • Long articles: the player stays in view after the reader scrolls past the placement.
  • Multi-page journeys: playback continues as the viewer moves from page to page on your site.
  • Listening sessions on podcast sites: pair it with the Audio + Video Dynamic Player, so an episode keeps playing while the listener browses.

How it works

  • The mini-player is a player control. You turn it on per page type and can override it per placement.
  • It docks when its trigger fires: the viewer scrolls past the placement, or navigates to another page.
  • You choose the dock corner and the dismiss rules.
  • On narrow viewports, you can have it turn off automatically.
  • With the SDK, the mini-player can follow the viewer into the next page. The session carries over, and Contextual Continuity shapes what the next placement shows.

Set it up

Octo proposes the mini-player with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.

  1. Turn on the Sticky mini-player for the page type under Controls > Player controls. Learn how in Player Controls and Feed Settings.
  2. Choose the dock corner and the trigger: scrolling past the placement, or navigation.
  3. Optionally, let the mini-player follow the viewer into the next page through the SDK.

Settings

SettingWhat it controls
Sticky mini-playerOn or off, per page type
Dock positionThe corner the player docks to
TriggerScrolling past the placement, or navigation
Dismiss rulesHow the docked player is dismissed
Narrow viewportsTurns the mini-player off automatically, if you choose

Set these per page type, and override them per placement, in Player Controls and Feed Settings. Changes apply without a code change.

What it reports

Reports > Onsite shows these measures for each placement. Measure engagement explains how watch time and pages per session are counted.

  • Minutes added: the watch time the mini-player adds.
  • Dismiss rate: how often viewers dismiss the docked player.
  • Pages per session: compared with the mini-player and without it.

Add it to your site

The Web SDK renders this placement today. Embed the Genuin Web SDK on your website covers loading the script, and Add a Genuin placement to your website covers the placement and style IDs. Customize the Genuin video player sets sizes, tile layouts, and the profile menu.

The placement settings calls in the Business Account API are proposed, not live. Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what you can call now to what's planned.
