Parliament Winter Session | Mahua Moitra on Vande Mataram row | She alleged BJP leaders tried to “make Muslims sing” the hymn while some “couldn’t sing it themselves”, calling their commitment a “badly scripted comedy”. Citing history, she noted Bankim Chandra’s hymn dates to 1875, predating the RSS (1925) and BJP (1980). Invoking Ram Prasad Bismil and Ashfaqulla Khan, she asked: “Who in the BJP or RSS has even a tenuous link to the freedom struggle to lecture others on its meaning?”
