Clip Generation from Long-form
Studio finds the strongest moments in podcasts, shows, webinars, and live replays and cuts vertical and landscape clips with captions.
Clip Generation turns the long-form audio and video you already have into short clips for your feeds. Studio picks the moments, cuts and captions them, and drafts each title in your brand voice. Nothing publishes until you approve it.
This capability arrives as a proposal when your network needs it, filled in from your brand context, and goes live when you confirm it. It's part of Studio, and Studio: produce brand video from podcasts, long-form, and catalogs explains every input Studio accepts.
When to use it
Use it if your brand has any long-form audio or video. It gets you to 30 videos, the floor Maya needs to rank a feed rather than loop it.
| Source type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Podcasts | Episodes from your podcast RSS feed |
| Shows and long videos | YouTube and Vimeo channels, uploads, and Drive or Dropbox folders |
| Webinars and demos | Recordings you upload or connect |
| Live replays | Sessions clipped after they end, through Live-to-Clips |
Connected sources are read on a schedule you confirm, and everything lands in Studio > Inbox. For example, a podcaster can turn four episodes into 30 clips.
How it works
- Studio finds the moments with the strongest hook, using the transcript, audio energy, and on-screen signals.
- It cuts vertical clips, reframes faces and products, and adds captions. Adaptation re-cuts vertical clips to landscape for 16:9 players.
- Each clip gets a title, a caption, and topic tags in your brand voice, as Captions, Titles, and Brand Voice describes.
- Studio proposes a group and placements by context match. It runs the brand safety baseline and flags anything that needs a human.
- Your edits in Drafts train Studio, and after a few dozen approvals most drafts need no edits.
- With Canvas scheduling, every new episode becomes clips without anyone opening the Inbox.
Set it up
Octo proposes clip generation with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.
- Connect your long-form sources, such as a podcast RSS feed or a YouTube channel. Learn how in Connect your website, app, and podcast feed.
- Select items in Studio > Inbox and choose Generate clips. Up to ten long-form items cover the videos the launch checklist in Launch your communities: your owned-and-operated spaces needs.
- Approve each clip in Studio > Drafts, after any edits to its title or caption.
Settings
| Setting | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Clip length range | The shortest and longest clip Studio cuts |
| Caption style | How captions look on each clip |
| Brand voice | The tone of titles, captions, and topic tags |
Octo fills these from your brand context, and you change them when you review the proposal. Brand voice comes from the kit you set in Set your brand identity: name, logo, colors, and voice.
What it reports
- Clips per source: how many clips Studio cut from each connected source.
- Approval rate: the share of drafted clips you approve.
- Performance by source: engagement on published clips, grouped by the source they came from.
Reports > Engagement filters engagement by content source, and Studio > Library searches published clips by source and performance. Measure engagement: watch time, lift, and cohorts explains how engagement is counted.
Connect your systems
The live API covers the communities, groups, and posts your clips land in.
- Create a community creates a community under your brand, with its type, access settings, and first members.
- Create a group in a community adds a group with its visibility and posting rules.
- Post a video to a group uploads a video and its thumbnail, then posts it to a group with a caption.
The Studio calls in the Business Account API are proposed, not live. Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap maps what you can call now to what's planned.
