Lakhs of people gathered across Assam to bid farewell to singer, songwriter and cultural icon Zubeen Garg, who was cremated with full state honours in Guwahati on Tuesday, 23 September. The 52-year-old artist, who passed away in Singapore on September 19, was given an emotional send-off as fans walked alongside his final journey, singing his iconic song ‘Mayabini’, a wish he had expressed during his lifetime. Since September 21, his body lay in state at Sarusajai sports complex, where endless queues of mourners paid tribute. His sister lit the pyre amid gun salutes, while dignitaries and fans stood together in grief. The Assam government has also announced a memorial at Sonapur, where he was cremated. #ZubeenGarg #Assam
