GST 2.0 came into effect from midnight 22 Sept 2025, bringing price cuts across everyday goods and major sectors. Over 375 items, including food, FMCG products, personal care, cement, insurance, and automobiles, saw lower taxes. Companies like Amul, Mother Dairy, Kellogg’s, L’Oréal, Dove, and Maruti Suzuki passed on the benefits directly to consumers, with discounts ranging from 3% to 15%. Milk, paneer, butter, cheese, biscuits, ice creams, shampoos, soaps, and hair oils became noticeably cheaper. Cement prices fell ~10%, supporting the construction sector, while health and life insurance premiums dropped after exemption from 18% GST. Durable goods like ACs and dishwashers also saw reductions. Cars were significantly cheaper, with small hatchbacks and SUVs enjoying the steepest cuts. Economists said the move boosted consumption, lowered inflation, and may increase savings and investment.
