VIT Bhopal closed till November 30 after night of violence amid jaundice outbreak claims Students at VIT University Bhopal staged a late-night protest on Tuesday over an alleged jaundice outbreak on campus, blaming contaminated water and poor hygiene. Crowds swelled to about 4,000, multiple vehicles were set ablaze, and the Chancellor’s bungalow was damaged, according to local police. At least two dozen students have reported jaundice-like symptoms in recent weeks. Protesters allege that repeated complaints about food and water quality were ignored and that some staff and guards intimidated students who raised concerns. Police from Sehore and nearby areas were deployed to restore order. Superintendent of Police Deepak Shukla said the situation is now “normal” and confirmed the shutdown until November 30, with many students leaving for home. A list of sick students is being compiled and applications are being taken to address their issues. The university administration and district officials have not issued a formal statement yet. Police have opened an inquiry into the illness reports, alleged assaults, and property damage.
