The first day of the Winter Session witnessed disruptions in both Houses, with proceedings repeatedly stalled over the Opposition’s demand for a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. In the Rajya Sabha, the Opposition staged a walkout after their request for a discussion was declined, leading to an early adjournment. The Lok Sabha also faced continuous sloganeering, resulting in the House being adjourned soon after convening. Meanwhile, the government listed 14 bills for introduction or consideration during the session, including legislation related to atomic energy and higher education, prompting Opposition criticism over what they described as an attempt to fast-track key bills without adequate debate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the opening day by welcoming members, while emphasizing the importance of constructive discussion. The Winter Session is the first Parliament session Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan is presiding over as the chairman of the Upper House.
