🔃 Shoulder AC Joint Separation . Have that distinctive bump on your shoulder? #ACjoint separation is one of the most common shoulder injuries seen in falls and contact sports/cycling. The acromioclavicular (AC) joint is crucial, connecting your collarbone or clavicle to your shoulder blade and providing stability for shoulder movement. When you fall directly on your shoulder, the impact can tear the ligaments holding this joint together, causing that telltale step-off deformity. Not all AC separations need surgery. Grades I-II typically heal well with conservative treatment like rest, ice, and targeted Physical Therapy. Grade III injuries are more controversial - some athletes do great without surgery, while others benefit from reconstruction. Higher grade injuries (IV-VI) may require surgical intervention to relieve symptoms and restore stability. Modern techniques have revolutionized treatment, using strong biological grafts or synthetic materials to rebuild your shoulder’s natural suspension system. Think of it like reconstructing a suspension bridge - we’re recreating those crucial ligament connections that keep everything aligned. . Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment selection is key. Whether you’re a Barstool employee or professional athlete, understanding your injury grade and treatment options is crucial. Most athletes return to play within 3-6 mos with proper care, though recovery timing varies based on injury severity and chosen treatment path. #SportsInjury #ShoulderSurgery . 👇 Suffered a #ShoulderInjury - SHARE your experience & tips . . . 🎥 @amitmomayamd - Type 5 AC Joint Separation, @jerry.after.dark
