Patella Fractures: From Diagnosis to Recovery . Patella or #Kneecap fractures make up about 1% of broken bone injuries. #Patellafractures typically occur from direct trauma or sudden muscle contractions, and proper treatment is crucial for maintaining knee function! Diagnosis involves: - Clinical examination for extensor mechanism disruption - Standard radiographs (AP, lateral, oblique views) - CT scanning for complex fracture patterns - Assessment of displacement and articular congruity . Treatment decision-making depends on: - Fracture pattern (transverse, vertical, or comminuted) - Displacement (>3mm gap or step-off) - Extensor mechanism integrity - Patient factors (age, activity level, bone quality) . Broken Kneecap treatment options have evolved: - Non-operative management (nondisplaced fractures) - Traditional tension band wiring (TBW) - Modern techniques including cannulated screws, low-profile locking plates, Fibertape and novel approaches using suture techniques 💡 Interesting fact: The patella experiences forces up to 7x body weight during squatting! That’s why stable fixation is crucial for early mobilization and optimal outcomes. . 👇 SHARE your kneecap injury experience & insights #OrthopedicSurgery
