Indore’s summer water crisis has now reached the streets, with residents protesting irregular supply across several parts of the city. Around 50% of the city’s 6,500 govt borewells have reportedly dried up, pushing many neighbourhoods into tanker dependence. Public anger has been seen at places such as Robot Square, where residents blocked traffic, and in areas including Vikas Nagar, Veena Nagar, Gauri Nagar, Palda Square, Sukhliya Zone-5, Vijay Nagar and Scheme No 54. In some neighbourhoods, long queues for water have led to arguments and even physical altercations. Opposition workers also held protests outside all 22 municipal zone offices, while the Indore Municipal Corporation has begun seizing illegal pumps, penalising private tankers and setting up new hydrants to speed up distribution. The civic body has also sought Rs 50 crore from the state govt to strengthen the city’s water supply system.
