Have you heard of this? Acanthamoeba 🦠 is a common organism that can cause a rare but serious eye infection, especially in contact lens wearers. It can lead to severe vision loss, corneal transplantation, and even enucleation. Over 90% of cases are linked to improper lens care, like wearing lenses too long, using tap water to clean or store them, swimming in lenses and yes, you guessed it, showering with lenses. Soft lenses, in particular, increase the risk by making it easier for the organism to stick to the eye.
