🦶Complex Ankle Fracture Treatment . Complex #anklefractures remain one of the most challenging injuries in #orthopedics requiring careful surgical planning + precise execution. Ankle fractures make up about 10% of all fractures. What makes them “complex” isn’t just the break itself, but the intricate dance between bone, soft tissue, and timing, like a puzzle where every piece needs to be perfectly aligned, but the box keeps changing shape 🧩 The gold standard treatment remains Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF), and timing of surgery is absolutely crucial. Surgeons sometimes use the “wrinkle test” - waiting until the skin wrinkles when pinched, indicating reduced swelling and safer surgical conditions. Continued #AnkleInjury Repair Innovations include: - 3D imaging during surgery - Minimally invasive techniques - Advanced locking plate technology - Early weight-bearing protocols . Arthroscopy-assisted reduction procedures are showing great results in selected cases. This approach allows your surgeon to directly visualize the joint surface and address any cartilage damage that might have occurred during the injury. The posterior malleolus (back part of the ankle) has become the star of the show with research showing that properly fixing this fragment can significantly improve stability and outcomes. Complex ankle fractures require a thoughtful, individualized approach. While ORIF remains the backbone of treatment, the integration of new technologies and techniques is revolutionizing our ability to help patients return to their active lives. . 👇 SHARE your ankle injury experience & insights . . 🎥 @learn_withmusawir
