What is the purpose of poetry? That's a question people have probably been asking for as long as poems have been written. Poetry can accomplish so many things with relatively few words — pinpoint the feelings and emotions that we can't articulate, make us feel like we belong *and* bring people closer together. "It's this openness, this accessibility of poetry that makes it the language of people," says Amanda Gorman, the first US National Youth Poet Laureate and the youngest inaugural poet in US history. Gorman believes that poetry also has the ability to ask challenging questions that can fuel discussion and suggest new paths. "The thing about poetry is that it's not really about having the right answers; it's about asking these right questions," she explains.
