Tensions escalated in Manipur after tear gas was used outside the Jawaharlal Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal East, where crowds had gathered to receive the bodies of six Naga individuals allegedly abducted from Leilon Vaiphei village on May 13, 2026. Security forces were heavily deployed around the mortuary premises to prevent unrest and maintain law and order.
