Here's the real risk of building on someone else’s platform. We have seen it happen over and over again in tech. You build something great, and then the platform changes, restricts access, or shuts you down entirely. It’s happened with blogging platforms and now with big players like Broadcom, which bought VMware and eliminated free licensing. Companies that built entire infrastructures on tools like Bitnami are now stuck with massive bills, and most are choosing to pay rather than rebuild. For us at Desk Intelligence, we started with PHP, then moved into JavaScript and Node.js, but I often question whether that shift creates more dependency than flexibility. Partnerships are powerful, but they also carry risk. As cloud infrastructure evolves, I am seriously considering how and when to take more ownership—before that next big change catches us off guard.
