Hallux Rigidus is a form of degenerative arthritis that affects the big toe (the hallux), causing stiffness, pain, and limited movement. It occurs when the cartilage in the joint wears down over time, leading to inflammation and bone spurs. This condition makes walking, running, or even standing uncomfortable. Hallux Rigidus often worsens with age, and can result in difficulty bending the big toe, making activities like squatting or wearing high-heeled shoes painful. Early treatment options include physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, and specialized footwear, while advanced cases may require surgery to restore mobility.
