At least four people were killed and several others remain missing after a cruise boat carrying 35 to 40 passengers capsized in the Bargi Dam area of Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district on Thursday evening (April 30). The incident occurred near Khamaria Tapu on the Narmada river, where a sudden storm triggered strong winds and high waves, causing the vessel to lose balance, overturn and sink. According to police, at least 18 people have been rescued so far, many with the help of local fishermen and first responders, while around 15–18 passengers are still unaccounted for. Preliminary findings point to the sudden weather change as the immediate cause, though officials said a detailed investigation will examine adherence to safety protocols, including passenger limits and availability of life-saving equipment.
