An 11-year-old student was killed and at least four others were injured after a large peepal tree uprooted and fell on a school van in Mumbai's Chembur area on Tuesday amid heavy rainfall. The accident occurred when the van, carrying 12 children at the time, was passing through Subhash Nagar. Residents, the van conductor and emergency responders launched rescue efforts, with one child remaining trapped for nearly 45 minutes before being pulled out. Police have registered an Accidental Death Report, while civic authorities said preliminary inspection indicated that the tree's roots had weakened over time.
