Aldosterone is a hormone made and released by the adrenal cortex. Its release is controlled by the RAAS system (renin angiotensin aldosterone system). Aldosterone helps the kidneys keep sodium and water, rather than excreting those substances into the urine. However, you have to keep an eye on potassium, as this can cause the wasting of potassium.
