ACL and LCL Reconstruction and Repair: What to Expect ACL and LCL reconstruction and repair are surgical procedures designed to restore knee stability after ligament injuries. ACL reconstruction replaces the torn ligament with a graft, often from the hamstring or patellar tendon, secured via tunnels drilled in the femur and tibia. LCL repair involves suturing the damaged ligament, while reconstruction uses a graft to restore its function, anchored at natural attachment points. These procedures commonly use minimally invasive arthroscopy for precision. Recovery involves physical therapy and bracing, with most patients returning to full activity within 9–12 months.
