A protest by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation office turned violent after CPIM councillors allegedly blocked the way of Mayor V.V. Rajesh as he arrived at his office. The situation escalated into a scuffle between CPIM and BJP councillors inside the corporation premises. The protest was organised to demand the resignation of BJP councillor R. Sugathan, who was arrested in a KAAPA case, and to seek the resignation of Mayor V.V. Rajesh and Deputy Mayor Asha Nath over the oath-taking controversy. The clash left the mayor and several councillors injured.
