A couple from Malviya Nagar in South Delhi was arrested on Wednesday (Feb 25) for allegedly hurling racial slurs and intimidating three women from Arunachal Pradesh, police said. The accused — Ruby Jain and her husband Harsh Singh were booked under provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act after videos of the alleged abuse surfaced and were verified. According to police, the incident took place around 3.30 pm on February 20, when the women were getting an air conditioner installed at their rented accommodation and debris allegedly fell onto the lower floor where the couple resides. The complainants alleged that despite apologising, they were subjected to derogatory and racial remarks. In a purported video widely shared on social media, Ruby is heard making offensive comments and claiming her husband is the “son of a politician”. The accused were produced before Additional Sessions Judge Samar Vishal at Saket Court and remanded to 14-day judicial custody till March 11.
