# Community Roles and Creator Tiers

Host, Contributor, Member creator (a member whose posts go through moderation), and Partner roles inside communities, separate from Business Account roles.

Community roles decide who can post, place content, or buy inside each of your communities. They cover creators, partners, and buyers, while [Business Account roles](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/business-account-roles-and-scoped-roles) cover your own team. Genuin proposes the people, their tiers, and the creator share, so earnings are tracked from the first post.

[Octo](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/octo-operates-your-business-account-octo-proposes-you-approve), Genuin's Supervised Intelligence interface in your Business Account, proposes this capability when it finds a fit on your sites and apps. It completes the steps under Set it up from your brand context. Nothing goes live until you approve it. It's part of [Control](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/control-what-it-does-and-where-to-start), and [Creator programs and Rewards](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/creator-programs-and-rewards) explains how tiers and Rewards work together.

## When to use it

Use it in any community with creators or brand partners. Creator tiers come with the invitation, and the Partner role comes from your partnerships.

| Role | What it can do |
| --- | --- |
| Host | Go live, pin, feature, and answer Q&A; posts go straight to feed |
| Contributor | Post to assigned groups; posts go straight to feed |
| Member creator | Post to open groups; posts go to the moderation queue first |
| Partner | A Partner relationship under Manage > Network; its content access sets which communities and social handles it gets |

## How it works

- Octo proposes the people who post. They include hosts and talent from your site and video credits, employees from your directory, and the superfans who comment most.
- Each person gets a tier and the groups they can post into.
- A person can hold different roles in different communities.
- Community admins come from existing members. In a community's **General** tab under **Manage** > **Communities**, **Add Admin** lists its current members.
- A community's **Members** list shows role tags, such as **Admin** or **Owner**. Choose **Remove** from a member's three-dot menu to take them out.
- When an owner or admin removes someone from a community or group, that person moves to **Subscribers**. Genuin keeps them as subscribers instead of deleting them.
- Partner content stays under your rules. It can't bypass your [moderation](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/moderation-baselines-and-queue) or your brand safety profile.
- Creator profiles appear on their posts with your brand kit.
- Record your talent, and anyone who must never be invited, under **Brand** > **Context**. Octo respects both lists when it proposes creators.

People can also ask to join a private community or group, or to become a creator for your brand. Those requests wait in **Moderate** > **User Requests**, on the **Queued** tab.

Each request is tagged **Creator**, **Community Member**, or **Group Member**. An admin or owner accepts or rejects it, and the **History** tab shows who decided and what they chose.

**Auto Accept** accepts requests from the website, Genuin SDK, or app without manual review. Its dropdown sets which request types it covers: **Creator**, **Community Member**, or **Group Member**.

## Set it up

Octo proposes the roles with these steps already done. You review the result and confirm it.

1. Assign a tier to each creator when you invite them. Learn how in [Invite creators, hosts, and contributors](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/invite-creators).
2. Set the Partner role through partnerships. Learn how in [Add brand partners and demand partners](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/add-partners). Buyers aren't a community role: they purchase your packages from their own Business Account, as [Packages: sell outcomes to brands and demand partners](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/packages-sell-outcomes-to-brands-and-demand-partners) explains.
3. Give a person a different role in each community where they need one.

Choose **Approve and invite** to send the invitations. New creators are proposed as they emerge.

You can invite creators, community members, and group members by **Email**, **Phone**, **Genuin id**, or **Import List**. **Preview Template** shows the invitation email before it goes out.

Invitations to community members and group members are queued until those communities and groups exist under **Manage**. Business Account sends them once you create them.

When the **Creator Program Banner** toggle is on, your brand's web presence shows a **Become a Creator** banner. When it's off, the banner is hidden.

Partnerships live under **Manage** > **Network**. When you add a brand there, the **Content Access** step sets which communities and social handles each brand requests and provides.

## Settings

| Setting | What it controls |
| --- | --- |
| Tier per group | The tier a creator holds in each group: Host, Contributor, or Member creator |
| Who can post in this Group | All community members, or Group Members only (group members and community admins). In a private community, the second option is Invite-only: only community members you invite or approve can post |

Business Account also sets who can take part in each community and group:

| Setting | Applies to | Options |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Community Type | A community | Public or Private |
| Who Can Create Groups | A community | All community members or Admins |
| Who can see this Group | A group | Everyone, including people without an account, or Group Members only, which covers group members and community admins |

Groups that take invited creators need **Who can post in this Group** set to **Group Members only** first, or **Invite-only** in a private community. [Upload your videos or connect your social profile](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/upload-or-connect) sets up those groups. You can add or remove anyone before you approve.

## What it reports

The **Creators** report breaks creator activity out by tier, and **Reports** has a view for each creator. [Revenue reporting, payouts, and the Wallet](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/revenue-reporting-payouts-and-the-wallet) explains how earnings settle.

- **Active creators and posts per creator**: how much each tier contributes.
- **Approval rate**: how often creator posts are approved.
- **Views and watch time**: what each creator's posts draw.
- **Earned revenue**: what each creator earns, settled into their Wallet.

In your Business Account, **Manage** > **Users** > **Creators** lists each creator with the communities they created, their groups, and their post count. **Add Creator** adds a new one.

## Connect your systems

Community roles run in your Business Account and need no code. [Add members to a community](https://begenuin.com/developers/developer-resources/api/add-members-to-a-community-programmatically-api) onboards accounts or phone numbers from a CRM or signup flow. [Add moderators to a community](https://begenuin.com/developers/developer-resources/api/assign-moderators-to-community-using-api) gives accounts the moderator role. [Update a group and its members](https://begenuin.com/developers/developer-resources/api/add-or-manage-group-members-collaborators-using-api) adds or removes group members. [How Auto Login works](https://begenuin.com/developers/developer-resources/guides/genuin-auto-login) explains how members sign in from your backend, so they can post.

The creator and role calls in the [Business Account API](https://begenuin.com/developers/get-started/any-business/business-account-api-provisioning-oauth-and-the-resource-map) are proposed, not live. [Live API today and the Business Account API roadmap](https://begenuin.com/developers/developer-resources/guides/live-api-today-and-the-business-account-api-roadmap) maps what you can call now to what's planned.
