# Create and manage monetization presets

Create, duplicate, edit, and assign monetization presets in your Business Account to set where ads appear, how often, and on which platforms.

A monetization preset is a saved set of ad rules for your placements and embeds. It sets which ad types can fill a slot, where the first ad appears, how often ads repeat, and which platforms the rules apply to. Your team sets up presets in your Business Account without engineering work, applies them across Web, iOS, Android, and Mobile Web, and previews them before they go live.

Presets are part of [Monetize](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/monetize/monetize-what-it-does-and-where-to-start). Genuin's feed service reads the preset and places the ads before each page of the feed reaches the viewer. [How the Genuin SDK places ads in a feed](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/monetize/how-does-the-genuin-sdk-render-ads-and-deliver-the-consumer-experience) explains that mechanism.

## Open Ad Configuration

1. In your Business Account, go to **Settings** > **Ad Configuration**.
![The Settings page in your Business Account with Ad Configuration selected, showing the Monetization Presets list: the premium, balanced, conservative, and aggressive defaults and a custom Demo preset.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/ff3d1e176ec1f975f1a1f0cb2198901a0fc3b335-1874x914.jpg)
*Step 1: Monetization presets live under Settings > Ad Configuration.*
2. Choose how to start:
   - **Use a Default Preset**: it's pre-configured and ready to use, for a fast setup.
   - **Create a Custom Preset**: every setting is yours to change, for advanced control or a specific campaign.

## Default presets

| Preset | Best for |
| --- | --- |
| Premium | A clean experience with sponsorships only |
| Balanced | Optimized revenue with minimal disruption |
| Conservative | A content-first experience |
| Aggressive | Maximum monetization |

You can assign placements to a default preset, but you can't modify its internal logic. Start with the **Balanced** preset, then customize from there.

## Find a preset

The **Monetization Presets** list view shows every preset. From it, you can search and filter presets, duplicate them, and create new ones.

![The Monetization Presets list with the Search by keyword field and Filter button highlighted, and the duplicate and ⋯ action buttons highlighted on the premium preset.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/2eac99d855dee626b1733730fbc5f83f49ac9ea6-947x457.jpg)
*Search and filter sit above the list, and each preset has its own duplicate and action buttons.*

To narrow the list, filter it by any of these:

| Filter | Options |
| --- | --- |
| Platform | Web, iOS, Android, Mobile Web |
| Ad Type | In-Feed, In-Stream, Sponsored |
| Placements | All, or specific placements |
| Embeds | All, or specific embeds |

![The Filter panel open over the Monetization Presets list, with Platform, Ad Type, Placements, and Embeds tabs, the Android, Web, Mobile Web, and iOS options, and Apply and Clear.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/21cba720a57489075288112146a92cf9dd226040-1876x912.jpg)
*Pick a filter category on the left, check its options, then click Apply.*

## Duplicate a preset

1. Click the ⧉ icon on the preset you want to copy.
![The Monetization Presets list with the Duplicate Preset tooltip showing over the highlighted copy icon on the premium default preset.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/ec1154d8368e131aff336f68e3c481eaffee08b4-1875x914.jpg)
*Step 1: Duplicate Preset copies any preset, defaults included, with all its settings.*

Genuin creates a new preset named "\[Original Name\] (Copy)". The copy carries every configuration of the original: In-Feed, In-Stream, and Sponsored Takeover ad settings, placements, embeds, and environment rules. The copy is fully editable right away.

## Edit or delete a custom preset

Only custom presets can be edited or deleted:

| Action | Behavior |
| --- | --- |
| Duplicate Preset | Creates an editable copy |
| Edit Preset | Available for custom presets |
| Delete Preset | Available for custom presets only |

1. Click **⋯** on the preset, then **Edit Preset** or **Delete Preset**.
![The ⋯ menu open on the custom Demo preset in the Monetization Presets list, showing the Edit Preset and Delete Preset options.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/e55d7a213f21e394ee529689fab5060b47a5e500-1876x912.jpg)
*Step 1: Edit Preset and Delete Preset appear in the ⋯ menu of a custom preset.*
2. Confirm the action.
3. To edit, make your changes in the configuration window that opens, then save them.

> **Warning** Deleting a preset is permanent and can't be undone. To keep its settings, duplicate the preset before you delete it.

Default presets can't be deleted: the **Delete Preset** option isn't available for them.

## Create a custom preset

1. Click **+ New Preset**.
![The Settings page with the settings icon, Ad Configuration, and the + New Preset button highlighted above the Monetization Presets list.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/ceb38aba69f39f181deadf6423f7b442074bea4d-1873x899.jpg)
*Step 1: Start a custom preset with + New Preset.*
2. Enter a **Preset Name** of up to 50 characters. The name is required.
3. (Optional) Enter a **Description** of up to 200 characters.
4. Under **Select environment to show ads**, choose **Global** to apply the preset to all platforms, or **Custom settings** to select specific platforms: Web, iOS, Android, or Mobile Web.
![The New Preset form with the required Preset Name, an optional Description, the Select environment to show ads choice of Global or Custom settings, and the Feed Preview.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/31233cfd530bf9c5e822404ccd869b4a23c4fe65-1875x912.jpg)
*Step 4: Choose Global for every platform, or Custom settings to pick platforms.*
5. Select the **Placements & Embeds** that use the preset.
![The Select Placements & Embeds dropdown open under Show ads on selected placements, with Placements (69) and Embeds (404) tabs, a search field, All Placements, and Apply and Cancel.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/085e41fd6da46811796eadba8fc337b435d23dfc-1876x912.jpg)
*Step 5: Pick placements on one tab and embeds on the other, then click Apply.*
6. Configure in-feed ads, in-stream ads, Sponsored Takeover, and the ad settings, as the next sections describe.

## Configure in-feed ads

In-feed ads appear between content items in the feed.

![The Ad Types & Priority list in a new preset, with Sponsored Post (Sponsored), Video Ads, and Native Ads (Programmatic), each with an on/off toggle and a drag handle to reorder.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/c90d55dff899ece29e54c137209a6c59288ddeb1-1874x910.jpg)
*Turn each ad type on or off, and drag the list to set its priority.*

| Ad type | Category | What it is |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sponsored Post | Sponsored | Direct-sold content with the standard interaction interface |
| Video Ads | Programmatic | Video ads from programmatic sources |
| Native Ads | Programmatic | Programmatic display ads designed to match the surrounding content |
| Display Cards | Programmatic | Display ads from programmatic sources |
| House (Fallback Content) | Fallback, on by default | Content that shows when no paid ad is available, set in your Business Account |

Learn more about direct-sold posts in [Paid Partner Post](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/monetize/paid-partner-post), and about fallback content in [Mark and manage house ads](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/how-do-i-mark-and-manage-house-ads-in-the-business-account).

Two settings decide where in-feed ads land:

- **Start Slot**: where the first ad appears.
- **Repeat Frequency**: how often ads repeat.

For example, with a **Start Slot** of 2 and a **Repeat Frequency** of 4, ads appear at positions 2, 6, 10, 14, and so on. Use these two settings to control how often viewers see ads while they scroll.

## Configure in-stream ads

In-stream ads play inside videos. You can turn each type on or off.

![The In-Stream Ads card with its toggle switched on, Start Content Video and Repeat Frequency both set to 2, the Ad Events options, and the Pre-roll ad type switched on.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/9e7be7007b0b5f05c66c25d66cb65cb5e1acad62-1875x912.jpg)
*In-stream ads have their own switch, timing, and roll types.*

| Ad type | When it plays | Effect on the viewing experience and views |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pre-roll | Before the main video | The most common format, and the best for guaranteed ad impressions |
| Mid-roll | Halfway through the video | Achieves a high completion rate, but might hurt the viewing experience |
| Post-roll | After the video ends | The least disruptive option, but it delivers the fewest guaranteed views |

Avoid too many mid-roll ads, because they interrupt the video and might hurt the viewing experience.

## Set up Sponsored Takeover (Optional)

A Sponsored Takeover runs a full-feed campaign, where sponsored video replaces the feed. Use it for high-impact campaigns only. Learn more in [Paid Partner Takeover](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/monetize/paid-partner-takeover).

![The Sponsored Takeover card with its toggle switched on and a Video Feed Preview for Sponsored Takeover, next to the In-Feed Configuration card with Start Slot and Repeat Frequency.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/268c3ae22e761bb60e5ae284a19735b3f870f526-1876x911.jpg)
*Sponsored Takeover replaces the whole feed with direct-sold sponsored videos.*

| Setting | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Sponsored Takeover toggle | Turns full-feed takeover mode on or off |
| Video Feed as Sponsored Takeover | A checkbox that, when selected, replaces the entire video feed area with the sponsored video experience |
| Preview Panel | Shows a live miniature of the takeover layout across feed slots, on the right side of the editor |

## Set ad aspect ratio, sound, and timer

![The ad controls in both columns of the preset editor: Ad Aspect Ratio set to Allow all aspect ratios or Match video player ratio, a Mute on Start toggle, and a Duration toggle.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/02843e881cf00ed0b945ec9e5a2095ae55be5bcf-1875x910.jpg)
*These controls set an ad's aspect ratio, starting sound, and countdown.*

| Setting | What it does | Options |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ad Aspect Ratio | Sets which ad creative aspect ratios can display | Allow all aspect ratios (the default) accepts ads of any ratio. Match video player ratio accepts only ads that match the player's aspect ratio. |
| Mute on Start | Sets the starting sound of in-feed video ads | On or off. When on, video ads start playing without sound. |
| Duration | Shows or hides the ad's countdown | On or off. When on, viewers see the time left in the ad. |

## Assign and preview the preset

1. Select where the preset applies, such as feeds and embeds.
2. Use **Feed Preview** to check how ads appear in the feed, during video playback, and in Sponsored Takeover mode.
3. Save your selection.

Once the preset is assigned, ads start appearing based on its configuration. The preview mirrors the actual feed logic and updates within 500 ms of a change. If the preview doesn't match what you expect, check that the preset's slot settings and environment targeting are what you intended.

## When no ad is available

If no ad is available for a slot, Genuin tries the fallback: house ads. If no house ad is available either, the slot is skipped, so viewers never see empty space.

**House (Fallback Content)** is on by default, so house ads serve as the fallback even if you don't configure it. We recommend configuring fallback house ads in every preset because they keep slots filled when no paid ad is available.

## Limitations

- **Preset name**: Required, up to 50 characters.
- **Description**: Optional, up to 200 characters.
- **Number of presets**: There's no defined limit on custom presets.
- **Default presets**: You can't edit their ad logic, change their ad frequency, or delete them. You can only assign placements to them.
- **Deletion**: Deleting a custom preset is permanent.
