# Configure ad monetization with presets

Set up ad configuration presets in Brand Control Center (BCC) to control which ad types run, how often they appear, and where, across web and mobile apps.

An ad configuration preset is a saved set of ad rules: which ad types run in your feeds and videos, where the first ad appears, and how often ads repeat. You assign a preset to placements and embeds, and Genuin applies it on Web, iOS, Android, and Mobile Web.

Presets let your team balance revenue against viewer experience without engineering work. You can preview how ads appear before a preset goes live. Presets are part of Control; for the rest of the product, see [Control: what it does and where to start](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/control-what-it-does-and-where-to-start).

## Open ad configuration

1. In BCC, go to **Settings** > **Ad Configuration**.
![The Ad Configuration page under Settings in Brand Control Center, listing Monetization Presets: the default presets premium, balanced, conservative, and aggressive, and a custom preset below them.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/ff3d1e176ec1f975f1a1f0cb2198901a0fc3b335-1874x914.jpg)
*Step 1: Ad Configuration lists every monetization preset.*
2. Choose how to start: use a default preset, or create a custom preset.

The **Monetization Presets** list view shows all presets. From it, you can search and filter presets, duplicate them, edit or delete custom presets, and create new ones.

*Search, filter, duplicate, and more actions in the list view.*

A default preset is ready to use and pre-configured, for a fast setup. A custom preset gives you complete control, for advanced setups or specific campaigns.

## Use a default preset

Genuin provides four default presets:

| Preset | Best for |
| --- | --- |
| Premium | A clean experience with only sponsorships |
| Balanced | Optimized revenue with minimal disruption |
| Conservative | A content-first experience |
| Aggressive | Maximum monetization |

You can assign placements to a default preset, but you can't edit its ad logic, change its ad frequency, or delete it. To customize one, duplicate it and edit the copy. A good starting point is **Balanced**.

## Find a preset

Use the filters on the list view to narrow the presets you see.

![The Filter panel on the Monetization Presets list in Brand Control Center, with Platform, Ad Type, Placements, and Embeds tabs, and Android, Web, Mobile Web, and iOS options.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/21cba720a57489075288112146a92cf9dd226040-1876x912.jpg)
*Filter presets by platform, ad type, placement, or embed.*

| Filter | Options |
| --- | --- |
| Platform | Web, iOS, Android, Mobile Web |
| Ad Type | In-Feed, In-Stream, Sponsored |
| Placements | All, or specific placements |
| Embeds | All, or specific embeds |

## Duplicate a preset

Click the ⧉ icon on a preset to duplicate it. Genuin creates a copy named **"\[Original Name\] (Copy)"**, and the copy is immediately editable.

![The Monetization Presets list in Brand Control Center, with the duplicate icon on the premium preset highlighted and its Duplicate Preset tooltip showing.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/ec1154d8368e131aff336f68e3c481eaffee08b4-1875x914.jpg)
*Duplicate Preset creates an editable copy.*

The copy carries every configuration of the source: In-Feed, In-Stream, and Sponsored Takeover ad settings, placements, embeds, and environment rules. You can duplicate default presets and custom presets.

## Edit or delete a custom preset

You can edit or delete custom presets only. Default presets don't offer **Delete Preset**.

1. Click ⋯ on the preset, then click **Edit Preset** or **Delete Preset**.
![The more-actions menu open on a custom preset in the Monetization Presets list in Brand Control Center, with the Edit Preset and Delete Preset options.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/e55d7a213f21e394ee529689fab5060b47a5e500-1876x912.jpg)
*Step 1: Edit Preset and Delete Preset appear on custom presets.*
2. Confirm the action.
3. To edit, make your changes in the configuration window that opens, then save them.

> **Warning** Deleting a preset is permanent and can't be undone. To keep its settings, duplicate the preset before you delete it.

## Create a custom preset

1. Click **+ New Preset**.
![The Monetization Presets list under Settings in Brand Control Center, with the Settings icon, Ad Configuration, and the + New Preset button highlighted.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/ceb38aba69f39f181deadf6423f7b442074bea4d-1873x899.jpg)
*Step 1: Start a custom preset with + New Preset.*
2. Enter a **Preset Name**. It's required, up to 50 characters.
3. (Optional) Enter a **Description** of up to 200 characters.
4. Under **Select environment to show ads**, select **Global** to cover all platforms, or select **Custom settings** to pick specific platforms: Web, iOS, Android, or Mobile Web.

*Step 5: Pick the placements and embeds for the preset.*
6. Configure in-feed ads, in-stream ads, a sponsored takeover, and the ad experience controls, as described in the sections below.

### Configure in-feed ads

In-feed ads run between pieces of content in a feed. Turn on the ad types you want:

![The Ad Types & Priority list in a new preset in Brand Control Center, with toggles for Sponsored Post, Video Ads, and Native Ads, and a Drag to reorder handle.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/c90d55dff899ece29e54c137209a6c59288ddeb1-1874x910.jpg)
*In-feed ad types, each with its own toggle.*

| Ad type | Category | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sponsored Post | Sponsored | Direct-sold content with the standard interaction interface |
| Video Ads | Programmatic | Video ads from programmatic sources |
| Native Ads | Programmatic | Programmatic display ads designed to match the surrounding content |
| Display Cards | Programmatic | Display ads from programmatic sources |
| House (Fallback Content) | Fallback, on by default | Content that shows when no paid ad is available, set in BCC |

House fallback content comes from the posts you mark as house ads. Learn how in [Mark and manage house ads](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/how-do-i-mark-and-manage-house-ads-in-the-brand-control-center). For programmatic demand, see [Set up programmatic ads in your feeds](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/monetize/how-do-we-set-up-programmatic-ads-to-generate-automated-ad-revenue).

### Configure in-stream ads

In-stream ads play inside a video. Turn each position on or off:

![The In-Stream Ads section of a new preset in Brand Control Center, with its toggle, Start Content Video and Repeat Frequency dropdowns, Ad Events options, and a Pre-roll toggle.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/9e7be7007b0b5f05c66c25d66cb65cb5e1acad62-1875x912.jpg)
*In-stream ad settings, starting with the Pre-roll position.*

| Position | When it plays | Effect on experience and views |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pre-roll | Before the main video | The most common format, and the best for guaranteed ad impressions |
| Mid-roll | Halfway through the video | Reaches a high completion rate, but interrupts the video and can hurt the viewer experience |
| Post-roll | After the video ends | The least disruptive option, with the lowest number of guaranteed views |

Avoid running many mid-roll ads, because each one interrupts the video.

### Configure a sponsored takeover

A sponsored takeover turns the whole feed into a sponsored campaign. Use it for high-impact campaigns only. Learn more about [sponsored posts and takeovers](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/monetize/how-do-sponsored-posts-and-takeovers-work-in-placements).

*The Sponsored Takeover toggle and its feed preview.*

| Setting | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| Sponsored Takeover toggle | Turns full-feed takeover mode on or off |
| Video Feed as Sponsored Takeover | When selected, replaces the entire video feed area with the sponsored video experience |
| Preview Panel | Shows a live miniature of the takeover layout across feed slots, on the right side of the page |

### Set ad experience controls

These controls decide how ads look and sound to the viewer.

![The Controls sections of a new preset in Brand Control Center, with Ad Aspect Ratio options, a Mute on Start toggle under Ad Player Behavior, and a Duration toggle under Ad Display.](https://cdn.sanity.io/images/lnrtvsvr/development/02843e881cf00ed0b945ec9e5a2095ae55be5bcf-1875x910.jpg)
*Aspect ratio, sound, and duration controls for ads.*

| Control | What it sets | Options |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Ad Aspect Ratio | Which ad creative aspect ratios can show | Allow all aspect ratios (default) accepts ads of any ratio. Match video player ratio accepts only ads that match the player's ratio. |
| Mute on Start | The starting audio of in-feed video ads | When on, video ads start without sound. |
| Duration | Whether the viewer sees the ad's countdown | When on, the ad's remaining duration is shown. |

## Set where ads start and repeat

Ad positions in a feed follow two settings:

- **Start Slot**: the slot where the first ad appears.
- **Repeat Frequency**: how often ads repeat after that.

For example, with Start Slot 2 and Repeat Frequency 4, ads appear in slots 2, 6, 10, 14, and so on. Use these settings to control how often viewers see ads while they scroll. For the ranges and in-stream equivalents, see [Configure vertical video ad placements and frequency](https://begenuin.com/developers/browse-by-products/control/how-does-a-brand-configure-vertical-video-ad-placements-and-frequency).

## Assign the preset to placements

1. Select where the preset applies, such as feeds or embeds.
2. Save your selection.

Once you assign a preset, ads start appearing according to its configuration. You can assign a different preset to each placement or embed.

## Check the feed preview

Before you publish, use the feed preview to check how ads appear in the feed, during video playback, and in sponsored takeover mode. The preview mirrors the actual feed logic and updates within 500 ms of a change.

If the preview doesn't match what you expect, make sure the preset's slot settings and environment targeting are what you intended.

## How Genuin fills an ad slot

When no ad is available for a slot, Genuin shows fallback content from house ads. If no fallback is available either, Genuin skips the slot, so the feed shows no empty space.

House ads serve as the default fallback. Always configure them, so your slots have owned content to show when paid ads don't fill.

## Limitations

- **Preset name**: required, up to 50 characters.
- **Description**: optional, up to 200 characters.
- **Number of presets**: there's no limit on custom presets.
- **Default presets**: you can assign placements only. You can't edit their ad logic, change their ad frequency, or delete them.
- **Several presets on one placement**: more than one preset can apply to a placement. The precedence rules between them aren't documented.
